Retiring SMO suspended
Ludhiana, June 9
Holding him responsible for the lack of cleanliness in the city’s Civil Hospital, the Health Department placed senior medical officer (SMO) Dr US Sooch under suspension on Thursday following an inquiry. Punjab Health Minister Satpal Gosain told The Tribune the action was taken against him after the probe found he was to blame for the poor conditions at the hospital.

Industrialists come forward to adopt parks

Panel wants uniform amount for upkeep of parks
Ludhiana, June 9
Members of the Park Management Committee (PMC) have demanded that they should be paid a uniformed amount to upkeep their respective parks. Presently, there are 754 parks in the city, and around 350 PMCs.

PWD ties itself in knots over proposed ROB

Farmers told to opt for time-tested rice varieties
Ludhiana, June 9
Farmers should always prefer to go in for the recommended varieties of paddy and other crops as their recommendations are made by PAU after thorough testing. This was stated by the PAU director of Extension Education, Dr MS Gill adding that besides being having no yield potential, the un-recommended and unknown varieties were more prone to biotic and abiotic stresses. He elaborated that the crop improvement programme at PAU had a time tested variety screening and testing process.

City students shine in B.Com Ist exam

The city students have again excelled in B.Com part Ist year by securing several university positions. Two students from the Government College for Women namely Prabhsharan Kaur and Shilpa have bagged second and third positions, respectively, in the university by scoring 467 and 461 marks out of 550 marks.

Magisterial probe ordered in roof-collapse incident 
Ludhiana, June 9
Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh has marked a magisterial probe into the roof collapse incident that took place yesterday. One person had died and seven others had sustained injuries in this incident. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Sidhu will conduct the probe. A case under Section 304-A has been registered against Bains Contractors Private Limited for the alleged negligence due to which the lintel of Sacred Heart Convent School, BRS Nagar, fell yesterday.
