Go Airways passengers stranded for over 2 hrs

His mother’s 12-year struggle did not go in vain

Power cuts make it tough for residents

Service tax on two new services discussed

An open house on the applicability of service tax on two new services introduced in the Union Budget-2011, including the short-term accommodation services and the restaurant services, which have been brought under service tax net with effect from May 1, was held in the Central Revenue Building here today.
Protest by JD activists
Activists of the Chandigarh Territorial Janata Dal (United) today held a protest at Mani Majra in front of the MC’s office against the indifferent attitude of the Chandigarh administration towards the problems of area residents. They also burnt an effigy of the Chandigarh administration. They demanded that the Food and Civil Supply office be shifted to Mani Majra in order to streamline the issuing of ration cards to residents of the area. Later, a delegation led by Surinder Bhardwaj, president of the party, submitted a memorandum to the MC Assistant Commissioner, who will hand it over to the Adviser to the UT Administrator. Their other demands included provision of basic amenities, along with regular water and electricity supplies, and opening of more ration depots in order to distribute wheat and atta under the PDS scheme among BPL families.

Strong winds lash Mohali
Mohali, May 25
A dust-storm lashed the town here this evening, throwing life out of gear. Some trees fell on the roads due to the strong winds, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic. One such occurrence was witnessed near the Chawla chowk at Phase VII. Power supply in many areas remained disrupted for nearly two hours, with frequent trippings later.

According to the secretary’s directions, on receipt of a tank lorry of kerosene at the kerosene pump, stocks should be decanted in the presence of the SDM/Additional Deputy Commissioner/Inspector Food and Supplies and members of the Vigilance Committee.
