Leopard caught: An injured leopard was on Wednesday caught by forest officials at Kotdwar in Pauri Garhwal district. The leopard had strayed into agriculture fields and injured itself after getting trapped in barbed wires. Later, it was taken to Chidyapur, Haridwar, rescue
centre.Dacoity case: A Uttarakhand Special Operation Group team on Wednesday arrested Manoj Bidholi from Kharkari Haridwar. Bidoli is one of the key accused in the Vishal Mega Mart dacoity case in Dehradun and has been absconding for long. The dacoity had taken place last year.
Report sought: Sushil Kumar, Chief Executive Engineer, DMC, has asked senior health officer Dr Kailash Joshi to investigate the matter related to its suspended employee, Deepak, and give its report within a week. Deepak, who was posted as a sanitary supervisor in the corporation, was suspended after one of the employees was found lodged in prison and the corporation blamed him for not informing the department about it six years ago.
Meeting: To discuss their demands, the Safai Karamchari Aayog held a meeting at the Disaster Management Centre here on Wednesday. Talking to the media, HR Rawat, secretary of the aayog, said the meeting was organised to make the proper structure of the aayog. Other then this, the Swatchta Samiti has been asked to submit money so that full pay could be given to employees.

President to visit Nainital: President of India Pratibha Patil will be in Nainital from June 5 to June 9. According to Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva, the President’s visit is personal. She said both of them would later be going to Dehradun for a passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy on June 10. Arrangements are being made by the administration for the
President’s visit.
Foundation stones laid:
Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank visited the Chaukhutiya area, Almora district, on Wednesday as a part of his Antyodaya Vikas Yatra. He said the aim of his government was to take development to the remotest areas in the state and asked officials to execute developmental programmes launched by the government within the specified time frame. He asked District Magistrate DS Garbyal to take stock of works being executed at regular intervals. He laid foundation stones and dedicated various schemes to the public.
Streetlights demanded:
Residents of the Sitarganj area of Udham Singh Nagar are irked over the failure of the administration to provide them with streetlights over the past two months. In protest against it, traders of the town staged a demonstration at the office of the SDM on Tuesday. They said the people of the area were feeling unsafe due to the absence of streetlights in the area. It is learnt that the authorities have disconnected power supply to these streetlights due to the failure of the local civic body to pay dues to the department.
Two commit suicide:
Two cases of suicide have come to light in the Ramnagar area of Nainital district. A woman of the Dhela area allegedly committed suicide after a tiff with her husband Navin Chandra. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Seema. In another incident, a man allegedly committed suicide in Chorpani village as he was under depression due to bad health. The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Prem Ram.
One killed:
A hotel guide working in Nainital was killed when he fell into a gorge. The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Dewan Ram, a resident of the Birla checkpost area.
