Rahul roots for youth in politics
Media kept at

Gurgaon, April 21 However, for reasons best known to the organisers, mediapersons were barred from a first-hand coverage of the event. Instead, a press statement was mailed to the newsmen from an e-mail address of some “Congress committee” late in the evening. According to party insiders and political observers, the strategy of not allowing the media to the meeting venue was two-pronged: One, to arouse the curiosity of journalists so as to ensure an elaborate coverage. Secondly, a message would be sent out that the Congress “yuvraj” was not publicity-hungry. Also, the media would have no choice but to present whatever was provided to it. Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress president Chiranjeev Rao, who had held a press conference here a couple of days ago to announce Rahul’s visit, as well as his father and senior Haryana minister Ajay Singh Yadav, who had been calling journalists to attend the press conference, washed their hands off the event at the eleventh hour. So much so, that the District Information and Public Relations Officer, who had sought the names and photographs of the press reporters and photographers yesterday for the coverage of today’s event, was not allowed to enter the meeting hall. In his address, Rahul asked the party youth to take up issues of public interest with the authorities concerned. The Youth Congress members also aired their grievances, chiefly the unresponsive attitude of the administrative officials. Rahul, in turn, instructed the Chief Minister to take cognisance of the matter and do the needful. Dangling a juicy red carrot before the party youth, the AICC general secretary said he would want to involve more youth in the next general as well as state Assembly elections. |
Dept inspects Bt cottonseed outlets, lifts samples
Sirsa, April 21 The bollguard-I (BG-I) variety is the most sought-after range of Bt cottonseed in the area. Angry scenes have been witnessed at some outlets where Bt cottonseed of some sought-after varieties has been sold in the past few days. “Not a single pack of the BG-I 6488 variety has been distributed by the HSDC so far, while in the open market, it is available for a premium. The packet priced at Rs 825 is available in the market for Rs 1,500,” alleged a farmer from Panjuana. Om Pal Panwar, manager of the HSDC, admitted that 8,000 packets of seeds had been lying in the stocks here for the past few days and maintained that these had been withheld on orders from his superiors. Meanwhile, a team from the Agriculture Department today checked several outlets in Sirsa town, where Bt cottonseed of different varieties is being sold. The team comprising RC Punia, Joint Director (Cotton), Jagdeep Brar, Deputy Director, Sukhdev Singh, Subdivisional Officer, and Babu Lal, Quality Control Officer, took 12 samples from various shops. Later, Punia said the team checked 15-odd outlets and directed traders to display the stocks available with them on the notice board installed in their establishments.
