Bihar election verdict people’s stamp of approval on development, says Nishank
Dehradun, November 24 Nishank said the Bihar verdict was people’s stamp of approval over development. He said the days of
politics of caste, family and muscle power had now gone as people had now started voting for development. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister has also greeted senior BJP leader Lal Krishan Advani, Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and
senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi. Khanduri expresses happiness Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Dhumakot MLA Major-Gen BC Khanduri (retd) has expressed happiness over the resounding success to the JD(U) and BJP alliance in the Bihar Assembly polls. “The landslide victory of the JD(U) and BJP alliance has amply proved that people’s faith in the BJP is only strengthening day by day,” Khanduri said. He said people had voted for the development initiatives started by Nitish Kumar, Sushil Modi and his team. The former Chief Minister also congratulated Bihar BJP President CP Thakur over the phone on the success. Uttarakhand Media Advisory Committee vice-president Ajendra Ajay described the JD(U) and BJP alliance success in Bihar as victory of the NDA policies. Uttarakhand Media Advisory Committee Chairman Dr Devendra Bhasin said the people of Bihar had voted for development. He wished similar success for the BJP in the Uttarakhand polls. He also appealed to the Congress party in Uttarakhand to contribute towards the development in the state rather than resorting to petty politics of negativism. Victory people’s mandate, says Kaushik HARIDWAR: With the Bihar Assembly elections seeing a clean sweep victory for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), BJP party activists were in a jubilant mood celebrating the landslide victory of their party. The district unit carried out celebrations by distributing sweets, while many tried to put the Bihar victory in sync with upcoming Assembly elections in Uttarakhand too. Speaking to The Tribune, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Sugarcane Madan Kaushik termed the victory as people’s mandate which was pro-BJP-led alliance, while majorly against the Congress-led United Provincial Alliance (UPA). Lashing out at the Congress government for Terming Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi as visionary politicians, Kaushik said the combination owing to developmental works, fair government with no corruption scandals had vowed the public’s faith once again, with all
other parties, be it the Congress, RJD, LJP, CPI and CPM having to face massive defeat. Meanwhile, apart from people hailing from Bihar state, local residents too were quite excited about the outcome of the final electoral counting results with people seen glued
to their television sets from early morning itself to enquire about the outcome of the Bihar Assembly results. While Congress supporters switched off their television sets or changed
the news channels as soon as it was clear that the NDA was going to surpass
their previous Assembly tally, the BJP-led supporters began to celebrate. “This is quite surprising as otherwise people wait outside out TV showrooms only during parliamentary, Uttarakhand Assembly
or cricket matches. But this time, Bihar elections also evoked quite an interest among common public,” said LG shop manager
at Jwalapur. |

Manch launches drive against corruption
Haridwar, November 24 Urging all and sundry to join hands against corruption which has deep roots in our society, founder of the manch Ambrish Kumar has suggested that the way to eradicate this menace is to follow the Gandhian ideology of sacrifice siding with the truth. “Gandhiji sacrificed all worldly pleasures as he wanted to be closer to the common man but nowadays we are seeing parliamentarians uniting and going public vociferously to demand at least a Rs 1 hike in comparison to Chief Secretary’s emoluments, which is quite unfortunate. In the hindsight one can himself assume how much they will be demanding backdoors as bribe to do public work,” he said. Ambrish Kumar, former legislator, also questioned Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s intent on the Baba Ramdev’s allegations against one of the former cabinet ministers. He said everyone knew who the state cabinet minister was but still Nishank was stating that the yoga guru should tell his name and then he would take the action. Among prominent members present there were Murli Manohar, Balram Giri, Gawaksh Joshi, Manoj Babbal, Rao Jaeid, Vijay Prajapati, Kamal Brijwasi, Anant Pandey, Kallu Kureshi, Arshad Rao, Anil,Major Sunil, Iftehar Khan and Aman Garg. Samajwadi Party lashes out at Ramdev Dehradun:Ravinder Singh Negi, secretary, Samajwadi Party, took a dig at Swami Ram Dev, Ratan Tata and Rahul Bajaj for hiding the names of those people who had asked a bribe from them to get their work done. This, he said, had created a lot of confusion in the mind of the public. He flayed Baba Ram Dev saying that he had been spearheading a campaign against corruption, but did not take it to its logical conclusion. Negi said the Congress too was involved in 56 scams. |

Defence sector opposes govt policy
Dehradun, November 24 Members of the federation said the government wanted the private organisations like Tata and Reliance to enter into manufacturing of the arms and ammunition. And the federation is against the policy. Addressing the media, SN Pathak, president of the federation, said the federation was against the privatisation of Defence and had been demanding for the past 10 years a stop on the policy of the government. He called the privatisation of the Defence sector a ploy of external forces against India. “We fought four wars against Pakistan with the arms and ammunition made by the government-owned Defence industries and why do we need foreign arms producers now?” We have the best of engineers and scientists in our factories and they should be given chance. Only transfer of technology should be there and the foreign manufactures should not be given licences. Private companies have sole motive of earning profit which is not the case with the DRDO and other defence manufacturing units, Pathak added. He said the federation would stage a one-day dharna at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on November 22 and march to Parliament to protest the policy of the government. Besides, during the meeting federation’s several other demands, including pension for those recruited after 2004 and jobs for children of their employees would be discussed. More than 300 delegates from all over the country are expected to attend the meeting. The federation is the pioneer body of the trade unions of four lakh employees working in 41 ordnance factories, 50 DRDO labs, MES, DGQA and other defence establishments under the Army, Navy and Air Force. |

Similar problems bring youth closer
Dehradun, November 24 Here to participate in a Nehru Yuva Kendra workshop, Neitho and Nazieer said despite both states being rich in resources, the youth seemed to be facing problems in getting jobs. “We are all educated but jobs continue to be a problem and to top it the big Cats in the power structure corner all important positions,” they said. Visiting Uttarakhand for the first time, Nazieer said unless and until the youth were gainfully employed, they would continue to be targets of subversive elements active in the state. “Entrepreneurship is unheard off in the state. Non-government organisations are not very active over there and the Nehru Yuva Kendra has provided us an opportunity to mingle with other youth of the state. I have heard about the water-mill technology that the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) has perfected in the state. I would like to start the one in my state as well,” said Arshid Ahmed.
Echoing similar sentiments, Esther from Mizoram said though their society was dominated by women, there were too few opportunities. “We will be taking training in different technologies,” she said. The idea of aiding the creation of local, sustainable and scalable enterprises and thus help the youth turn from job-seekers to job-creators is seriously being considered by the government as well. “There is a distinct thought process working in some sections of the government that local opportunities will have to be created for the local youth to lessen reliance on government jobs, which are anyway fewer,” said Dr Anil Joshi of HESCO. While one might argue about the feasibility of instilling entrepreneurial values in the youth where none exists, Sarita Sahu, participant from Durg, said too much reliance on the government might have blunted the responses but the younger generation was more well equipped to take up the challenges the ever before. “Entrepreneurship cannot be taught but our visit here has opened us up to various possibilities. We have met people here who are engaged in different things, it is an inspiration enough,” said Paravi Kalita from Guwahati. The key to the workshop is to be able to instil not only the idea about enterprise, but also values of courage so that they continue to strive against enormous odds no matter what the results may be. More than 50 youth attended the workshop and interacted with social activists who managed to strive against all odds. |

‘Entrepreneurship way to tackle poverty’
Dehradun, November 24 Young women and men hailing from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand, who are members of the Nehru Yuva Kendras (NUKs), were asked to embrace the entrepreneurial drive. “Small ideas can achieve big results. We will be creating the Youth Peace Mission bodies in all states,” said Dr Anil Joshi, patron of the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) and votary of youth entrepreneurship, while addressing the workshop on “Development of Skill of Youth for Employment Generation”. He said all resource-rich states were plagued with the problem of unemployment and dissatisfaction. “Naxals are having a free run in several areas and so is terrorism. We have to wean the youth from these activities and engage them in entrepreneurial activities that utilise local technology and local resources,” he said. He said the mission organisations would open Technology Delivery Centres for the youth in each state. “We will be working with the Nehru Yuva Kendra that has a wide reach in all states, and utilise its expertise for upgrade of skills,” he said. In the same vein, environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna asked the youth to change the system for a better tomorrow. “You must change the system that is ‘mai baap’ driven and dominated by power, property and administrative structure. It should be replaced with service, patience, peace and accessibility,” he said. Minister for Rural Development Vijay Barthwal said the state had devised ways to engage the youth in entrepreneurial activities. Later, the participants learnt about various technologies that they would be adopting back home. |
