CM announces stadium for Ramnagar
Nainital, November 23 Nishank called upon the BJYM cadres to come forward in greater strength to play a role in society. He also lauded the works of the BJYM cadres during the relief and rescue efforts during the recent rain-related disaster in the state. Going into a populist mode, the Chief Minister claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state had created more than one lakh jobs since it came to power. He promised that while another 50,000 jobs were in the offing, the state would also recruit 20,000 in class IV posts. Referring to the recent visit of Chairman of the Tata Group Ratan Tata to Dehradun, Nishank said the group was going to make investments in the state thus opening new avenues for the population residing here. His government has entered into an agreement with five other major companies under the Aashirwad scheme for helping the students residing in far-flung areas of the state. According to him, 500 engineers would be trained in these remote areas in the next few years. He announced that his government had entered into an agreement with the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Mayawati, under which 4,000 policemen, who were to be repatriated to Uttarakhand, would not be coming and instead the state would be making fresh recruitments against these 4,000 posts. The Chief Minister then announced that the grants being given to individuals under the Veer Chandra Garhwali Tourism Scheme for promotion of tourism in the state would now be increased to Rs 20 lakh against the initial amount of Rs 10 lakh. He further went on to announce a stadium for Ramnagar. This announcement was taken with a pinch of salt by the locals who questioned from where he was going to get the land for the stadium. Nishank also accused the Congress for cutting down on the tenure of the industrial package given to the state by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and charged that it was the Congress which had been creating hurdles in the development of the state. |

Cong seeks dismissal of govt on corruption issue
Dehradun, November 23 Led by Opposition leader Harak Singh Rawat, the Congress deputation alleged rampant corruption in the state. “The sole achievement of the incumbent Uttarakhand BJP government has been crossing all limits of corruption”, the memorandum held. It said the one act of corruption had followed another act of corruption in the state, all at the behest of the state BJP government. “Ceturdia scam, PWD scam, Maha Kumbh irregularities, and now accusation of corruption made by Yoga Guru Ramdev against the state government. This evidently reveals the level of corruption taking place in Uttarakhand”, the memorandum, that had Harak Singh Rawat as signatory, said. Rawat also pointed out that despite providing assistance to Uttarakhand, the state government had failed to give speed to relief works. The issues of unemployment, deteriorating law and order situation, farmers’ problems and poor civic amenities were some of issues raised in the memorandum. Uttarakhand Congress MLAs Kedar Singh Rawat, Dinesh Agarwal, Balbir Singh Negi and Jot Singh Gunsola were prominent in the Congress delegation that met the Governor. |

Illegal parking: Four schools to get notice
Dehradun, November 23 “By now, we have identified four schools which don’t provide parking space on their premises and choke the roads. We are serving notice to them under the 53rd Police Act and will identify more such schools,” Navneet Singh Bhullar, Circle Officer (Traffic), told The Tribune. The traffic police here is finding it hard to deal with traffic jams which particularly take place at the ‘on and off’ timings of schools in the absence of non-cooperation from these educational institutions. After failing to come to any compromise in creating a difference of a few minutes among schools in their off timings to lessen the traffic flow, the schools have also turned a blind eye to the cops’ request to provide parking for its students on their own premises. This has forced the traffic police to serve notices to four city schools for parking by students and their parents/guardians on roads outside their respective schools which leads to heavy traffic jams particularly when the school day begins or ends. “Schools should provide parking at their own premises. How can these many number of vehicles could be accommodated on roads? This causes jams and makes our exercise to ease traffic movement ineffective,” Traffic Inspector Virender Singh Rawat said. Rawat said the traffic police earlier wanted that these schools make a five to 10 minute difference in the off timings of their schools to lessen the number of large vehicles. However, several rounds of discussions with the schools turned out to be futile. |

PIL against Palika dismissed
Dehradun, November 23 Palika President OP Uniyal, at a hurriedly called press conference yesterday, said his stand had been vindicated that the Palika was working in a transparent manner and without any corruption. He firmly stated that now the Palika could concentrate on initiating the pending development proposals in the town which had been delayed due to such unnecessary litigations. Uniyal also said the High Court had absolved the Palika of any wrong doing. He also informed the media that the court also took the issue of the PIL seriously and warned the applicants not to waste the time of the court and if they did it again then a fine of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed. Uniyal said now he could continue with the construction of shops on the Picture-Palace Road and address the encroachment problem in Mussoorie. It is important to mention that a PIL was filed by nominated member of Palika Anil Kumar citing several irregularities in tender process in the works of Palika. The High Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Barin Gosh and Justice Nirmal Yadav stated that Anil Kumar himself was a nominated member of the Palika and should have raised the matter at a board meeting first but he failed to do so, hence leading to the dismissal of the PIL filed by him. The Bench did not consider the issue of the Clock Tower taken by the High Court suo mottu and dismissed that plea finally. |
