Confusion over exact day of celebration
Mussoorie, September 2 Special security arrangements were made at temples. Children held the swing in which the figurine of Lord Krishna was kept. Bhajans and other religious song programmes were held in various temples on the occasion. Prasad was distributed in the end. However, some had celebrated Janmashtami yesterday due to the formation of the constellations according to religious books. Eminent astrologer from Mussoorie Jai Kishan Shah, elaborating the whole process and confusion over the exact day, was of the view that due to the formation of the Rohini constellation yesterday from 6.25 pm to 7.32 pm and ashtami falling between 5.10 pm yesterday to 11.54 am today, confusion had arisen. The different method of calculation, namely the solar and lunar calendar being used by the pundits, had also created anomalies about the celebration days. Shah further said Lord Krishna was born on ashtami on Sunday under the Rohini constellation which kept shifting according to the lunar calendar calculation. The Vaishnav sect celebrated Janmashtami yesterday and devotees of the Shaivism sect celebrated it today. More pictures, story on page 2 |
2 more test positive for dengue
Dehradun, September 2 Samples of two more persons have been sent to the New Delhi-based National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD). The two patients, who recently tested positive for dengue, hail from New Delhi. They have been admitted at the Vaish Nursing Home. An 11-year-old girl, undergoing treatment at Mahant Indresh, has tested negative. “The total number of dengue cases in Dehradun this year has risen to 14. The total number of persons infected in the state is 18 this year,” said Jadish Bahuguna, District Malaria Officer. Last year, 13 had died due to the H1N1 infection. Meanwhile, Director General, Health and Family Welfare, has asked district hospitals to maintains stocks of Aspirin tablets and other medicines. They have been instructed to compulsorily ensure that all patients with fever for more than eight days should undergo blood tests. Dengue, caused by the Ades mosquito, can be controlled with regular fogging and encouraging residents to maintain cleanliness at home and outside and not allowing water to stagnate. “The symptoms, at times, may be confusing as it sets in with high fever, throbbing headache and muscular and joint pain,” said Dr KC Pant, senior physician, Doon Hospital. The classic dengue fever lasts about six to seven days with a smaller peak of fever at the end. Clinically, the platelet count drops until the patient's temperature becomes normal. Some patients develop much milder symptoms which can be misdiagnosed as flu or viral infection. Patients with dengue can only pass on the infection through mosquitoes or blood products. |
