Bus Fare Hike
New Delhi, November 4 With this impression, majority of the commuters avoided DTC buses and tried to travel in Blueline buses. But they were surprised to know that private buses running under the state transport authority (STA) permits had also hiked the prices of their tickets. Suresh Chaudhary, a conductor with Blueline buses plying on route number 405 from Badarpur to Mori Gate, said the confusion was the result of the wrong information aired by the electronic media. The news channels in the morning said that fares of only DTC buses had been increased. He said that a man boarded his bus at Kalka More and asked for a ticket of Rs 7 for ITO. When he told him about the hiked fares, the commuter argued with him and refused to buy the ticket. Parveen Singh, another conductor working on buses on route number 534 from Mehrauli to Anand Vihar Bus Depot, said it was very difficult to convince commuters that the fares of Blueline buses had also been increased. “The electronic media has created confusion with their news that fares of only DTC buses had been increased,” he said. |
Conductor crushed to death
New Delhi, November 4 A senior police officer said the victim, Kamlesh, was travelling on the footboard of the bus when he suddenly fell down and got crushed on Punchkuian road. “Kamlesh lived in the Dakshinpuri area of south-east district and worked on buses plying on route number 522 between Ambedkar Nagar and Arya Samaj road in Karol Bagh. The bus was empty and he was asking the driver to take a turn when he fell down and came under the front tyre,” said a senior police officer. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and then moved to a private hospital, but he died on the way. The driver of the bus, Ashok, has been arrested. Doc held for
murder
The police has finally managed to arrest the doctor who had been on the run ever since a woman was found murdered in his rented room in the Bhagwan Nagar area of south-east Delhi on October 25. The homeopath doctor, N.K. Sharma, is the prime suspect in the case. It is being believed that he had an extra marital affair with the deceased. However the police today clarified that Sharma in his confessional statement had said that he killed the woman, Gulabo, because she happened to see him with a prostitute and had been blackmailing him ever since. Gulabo worked as a help in his clinic in the Badarpur area. |
Food minister inspects flour mills
New Delhi, November 4 The minister had undertaken the visit to assure that the flour to be sold by the Delhi government at Kendriya Bhandar and Mother Dairy outlets was of good quality. Yusuf had yesterday announced that with an idea to control inflation in Delhi, the state government would sell flour at government outlets on control rate. The initiative is being taken after the union government directed the states to sell wheat flour at Kendriya Bhandars and other outlets on control rate. The Delhi government will be supplied wheat by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) store in Ludhiana. The FCI will charge Rs 1,080 for one quintal wheat from the government. As the government does not have flour mills, it will take help from private mills for processing the wheat into flour. According to an estimate, the government’s production cost of flour will be Rs 13.50 per kg and it will sell flour at Rs 14 per kg. The flour will be supplied in bags of 5 kilograms and 10 kilograms. The 5-kg bag will be available at Rs 70, while the 10-kg bag will be sold at Rs 139. The sale of flour at subsidized rates comes few months after the government started selling pulses at various outlets in important places in Delhi. This was done when the prices of pulses had increased. A senior official of the department said the government would continue this practice as inflation was increasing and the poor were bearing the maximum brunt. |
Four held for robbery bid
Faridabad, November 4 The three other members of the gang escaped in the cover of darkness. The police has launched a manhunt for the three. The CIA staff at Munjesar, near here, was tipped off about these gang members. The police swung into action and a raid was conducted. After a while, the four were nabbed. However, the other three members escaped. All the four arrested are locals. Two of them are from the Palli crusher zone area. The police found a countrymade gun and swords on the bodies of the accused at the time of the raid. The Palli crusher zone is always in the news on account of wrong reasons. Cases of dacoity, murder and loot in it are a recurrent feature. The employees in the sheds always carry lots of money. Besides, as the construction material prepared in the sheds/plants is also sold on the black market, criminal elements and business rivalries come into play. The owners of the sheds have strong friends and enemies on account of their lucrative business dealings. It is an open secret that only strongmen having money and muscle power and those wielding political clout get allotments of the sheds/plant in the crusher zone. Hence, the zone is always a vulnerable area for anti-social activities. |
14 autos seized in Gzb
Ghaziabad, November 4 The drive was launched from Choudhary crossing. Further, as part of the drive, the policemen are removing additional seats from autos. The shared auto-rickshaws have seven seats, but the drivers, in order to make extra money, fix additional five seats on the back of the vehicle. This overloading causes accidents. Resident welfare associations and NGOs have been requested to join the campaign and make public aware of traffic rules. “It is strange that in spite of knowing very well that helmets are for their safety, bikers do not wear it, thus risking their lives. Further, citizens should drive safely. Instead of driving fast, one should start few minutes early,” said Kumar. |
No JNUSU poll this year
New Delhi, November 4 The meeting is crucial, as a section of students have alleged that office-bearers of the present students’ union are supporting a faculty member accused of sexually harassing a girl student. “JNUSU pesident Sandeep Singh had written a letter to the chairperson of Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH). He was trying to influence and derail the punishment process of the accused faculty member,” said Roshan, secretary, Students’ Federation of India (SFI). The SFI, the main opposition to All India Students Association (AISA) that rules JNUSU, has asked office-bearers to publicly apologise to the student community for “shielding the culprit.” “We hardly have any alternative to the present union, but we want the office-bearers to apologise for intervening in the proceedings of JNU’s democratic body,” said Roshan. The present union, however, maintained that political student wings were trying to spread confusion at a time when the administration was taking advantage of the divide. |

The agreement allows the promoters to sell the balance 51 per cent electricity through a suitable open access mechanism. The power plant processing around 1200 tonnes of municipal solid waste generated in the national Capital daily is expected to be commissioned around the Commonwealth Games. “Being pro-environment is the focus of all our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” added Shri Narayanan. The power plant at Ghazipur will be the second such project here to utilise the city’s solid waste to generate clean and renewable electricity. The other project is coming up at Okhla. BRT design at Moolchand to be changed
New Delhi, November 4 The BRT being located in the middle of the road causes traffic jam. Now under the new design, it will be on the left side of the road. The newly designed BRT will be from Defence Colony to Delhi Gate. The design was changed by the Delhi Urban Arts Commission, an agency of the union government. In new design, the road divider near Defence Colony is being broken. An official of the BRT said that changing design of the road was wastage of public money. The authorities concerned should have discussed all the points before constructing the road. The government has decided to change the design as the BRT was criticised by the media due to the long traffic jam from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand. Even the union government had criticized the BRT saying that it failed in its mission of uninterrupted traffic movement. |
