Fire fighters try to douse flames on the island It was virtually a “towering inferno” at Sukhna Lake late this evening. One of the city’s best-known “beauty” spots, the elegant glass-structured “watch tower”, on an island in the lake, went up in flames.

UT to seek more financial powers for Administrator

At an important meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) later this week in New Delhi, the Chandigarh Administration will seek that the UT Administrator should be given the financial power of clearing a project up to Rs 25 crore. Currently, he cannot clear projects worth more than Rs 10 crore.

Thieves decamped with valuables and cash after breaking into two houses in various parts of the city.Sanjiv Kumar of civil dispensary, Mauli Jagran, reported to the police that someone had stolen Rs 27,000, silver and gold ornaments from his house on Tuesday night after breaking open the locks.

A 45-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a car on road dividing Sectors 43 and 44.According to the police, Jasbir Kaur, a resident of Sector 43, was returning home after paying obeisance at the Sector 44 gurdwara when an unidentified vehicle hit her.

4 held in theft case

Four persons were arrested for allegedly stealing household items from a farmhouse near Nayagaon.The accused were produced before a court. Gurdeep Singh of Saidpur village in his complaint alleged that a refrigerator, cooking stoves, gas cylinders and other household items were stolen from his cousin’s farmhouse.
