Vehicles challaned at rly station
Chandigarh, September 23
Now, parking vehicles haphazardly at the Chandigarh Railway Station may cost you dear with the Government Railway Police (GRP) swinging into action recently. Some of those who couldn’t bother less about parking at the station got a good serving from GRP officials on Tuesday. Besides issuing challans to 25 culprits, the officials impounded four vehicles, including a Hyundai car, one three-wheeler ad two motorcycles, in the day-long drive.

In a major crackdown on the cold stores in Patiala district ahead of the festival season, the police department, in coordination with the officials of the health department, today seized 180 quintals of spurious khoya, 30 drums of adulterated sweets and about 15,000 litre of spurious sauce from different cold stores located in Patiala.

Five arrested for power theft

The UT vigilance department today conducted a raid at two taxi stands in southern sectors and arrested five persons on the charges of power theft. The authorities also said action would be taken against both the taxi stands for encroaching government’s land.

7 youth held drinking
Chandigarh, September 23 Seven youths, including five girls, were caught by the police for allegedly drinking at public place here tonight. One of the accused, identified as Manish Gulati is a resident of Sector 38, while the other boy Sunny was living with girls at a house Sector 44-A, said the police.

Liquor seized from confectionery shop
Zirakpur, September 23
The Excise Department today seized eight cartons of liquor and booked Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Badal Colony, Lohgarh, Zirakpur, under the provisions of the Excise Act for allegedly smuggling liquor from Chandigarh and selling it in Punjab.
