Man murdered in Shimlapuri

A 25-year-old man was murdered following a scuffle at Gill Colony in Shimplapuri here today. The incident took place in the afternoon when the man, identified as Rishi Pal, a resident of Street No. 2 Gill colony, was attacked by Suraj Mal, alias Vicky, Mohit and a nephew of Suraj Mal with sharp-edged weapons.

Car sales plunge in ‘shraadhs’

“Shraadhs” are those days of the year when people, especially North Indians, prefer not to buy anything new. Due to this, the sale of cars in the region has come down to 40 to 50 per cent. But the dealers maintain that things were still better compared to last year when recession, an additional factor, had affected the sales badly.

I am reminded of Robert Browning’s line, “The petty done, the undone vast.” Well, the “undone vast” is now beyond my reach. The petty done is dearer to me as it is my own. Again Touchstone’s words, in Shakespeare’s play “As you like it,” about his wife - “A foolish thing, sir, but my own” - come to the mind.

The misuse of tractors, registered as vehicles meant for agricultural works, for commercial purposes, including carrying of trade goods and transporting passengers, is proving to be a menace, beyond the control for the administration.As no driving licence is required for driving these vehicles, the police feels helpless in curbing reckless driving by untrained drivers, including minor children and migrant labourers.
