Actor Shahid Kapoor was in the city for promotion of his upcoming release Kaminey The ‘f’ word is suddenly a blast. The ‘f’ word is legal. The ‘f’ word is the new ‘s’. And does Fahid Kapoor mind! He lisps, he means to say ‘s’ and ends up saying ‘f’ and is adding yet another word to our options— Kaminey. Shahid Kapoor, surprising the city with a visit on Saturday, smiles, throwing a devil’s tinge into it, and admits: “Well, I am one of the Kaminey right now. I am living Kaminey day in and out, which makes me one. Infact, Kaminey mein sab kaminey hain”. And that draws many smiles out of this audience at Mountview. But we still can’t get over the title of this latest Vishal Bhardwaj film, he is here to promote and which is set for the August 14 release. Shahid agrees: “Vishal Bhardwaj is a polite guy. During the script session, he told me of the title. I was like – WHAT! I couldn’t have heard that right! Kaminey!! I wondered what was Vishal upto? And then with me—this guy with a sweet lover boy image! But Vishal convinced me that the title was bang on considering the all-warped-up characters”. Shahid validates the title from the lines written by Gulzaar— Mere arzoo bhi kamini, mere khaawab bhi kaminey, ek dil sey dosti thi, yeh hazur bhi kaminey.’ Sure enough, kya characters hain! A Charlie who lisps; a Guddu who stammers… While the rest of the cinema almost goads you into brain-deaths, this one looks like it will twist the greys full and propah? And Shahid, almost holds back the dimples in there: “This is a different film”. (Ah well… but with this one we are almost convinced). “I play characters I have never tried before. This is my first attempt to come out of the ‘lover boy’ image. And I like to call it Vishal’s first hardcore commercial film too” Any kismat connection with the two characters he plays here? Shahid flashes a sexy smile finally: “None. I don’t connect with either of the characters because they are so original”. “One stammers, while the other says ‘f’ instead of ‘s’. It was a challenge to play both the characters. So, a lot of research was done, ENT and speech therapists were consulted. We didn’t want to make caricatures on people who stammer,” tells Shahid, who has become selective with his choice of movies. “A successful actor does limited and good work. As an actor I liked the script of Kaminey, and I was ready to take the risk of breaking the chocolate image. Had the audiences not liked the promos, we would have had an uphill task on hands. I am glad people are already liking this movie with a difference.” Whether it is oh-so-sweet guy of Ishq Vishq… or the rogue of Kaminey, there is something that will never leave side of him- Link ups. Be it Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Sania Mirza or Priyanka Chopra? “Boss FOISE nahin hai,’ says the Charlie. Lastly, partying note from Kaminey. “Life main paisey kamaney key do tarikey hotey hain, ek FORT cut, aur ek FOTA FOT cut.” jasmine@tribunemail.com |

Every action has a reaction
Success just happens and is boring to talk about, says Shah Rukh Want to know what the superstar of Bollywood has to say about the mantra for success? Well its simple...There is absolutely no mantra to success, it just happens and often from the wrong decisions, says iconic actor Shahrukh Khan. "Success just happens, it is not an experience from which we learn or gain. There is no mantra or formula for it and it is boring to hear success stories," said Shahrukh, who was in the Capital recently to host a quiz show for IIPM. "You take a lot of wrong decisions in life to learn from failures and then succeed," the actor added. Recalling his early days of struggle in the film industry, Shahrukh said he did a number of films just to avoid the embarrassment of being unemployed. "To be very honest, whatever happened to me happened because I am really scared of failure and I have seen a lot of failure. Most of my initial films were ones discarded by other actors and producers could not find anyone else to do them. I did them all just to be employed," he said. "Success is not the direct result of our action, if it happens on its own, we take credit for it and that's the funny part of it. But all of us should experience failure in some fashion to succeed," the charismatic star said. Talking about films, Shahrukh says his forthcoming My Name is Khan, directed by Karan Johar is very different, apart from the fact that it marks the return of his popular onscreen pair with Kajol, after a hiatus of eight years. "My Name is Khan is a very interesting film. I play a Muslim living in America and the perception that I am faced with post 9/11. It's not about secularism, anger or destruction though," said Shahrukh. The versatile actor confirms he is set to return to the genre of action films, something, which he has stayed away from since his shoulder surgery, with Ra.One, where he is playing the character of a superhero. — PTI |

The whole art of scaring my audiences is so new for me and I'm looking forward for the same," says Godse in a statement. |

Playing the role of an angry young man, Hyder says "From the beginning there was everything filmy around me due to which I got attracted to stardom and Abbu found out my interest towards the movies and he insisted me to assist in some movies where I learned a lot, but later he asked me to face the camera rather than to assist which inspired me in becoming an actor." About the initial struggle he says, "I did not struggle much, but when you have a filmy background; expectations are high and it is difficult to prove yourself as an actor." Script and director are important for this new actor and he says, "Director is the main guy and it is he who shapes up the entire movie." Katrina, Lara turn down Govinda's offer
Bollywood's leading ladies Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta turned down veteran actor Govinda's request to star opposite him in a small cameo in the upcoming film Life Partner. The actor is in a state of shock. He had taken the onus of convincing a prominent leading lady to pair up with him for a special cameo. He had hoped his tinsel town friends Lara and Katrina would agree to play this small but significant part, sources close to the film said. "But when he approached them, they cited date problems. A small role coupled with the actor's flagging fortunes as a star might not have excited the B-town girls," they said. Govinda plays a cunning lawyer in Life Partner who keeps breaking everyone's relationship and later in his life finds love. It was a special cameo, where the heroine was required to play the part of three to four screens and a song. The actor then asked director Rumi Jaffery to cast whoever he wanted. Co-producer Studio 18 then stepped in and requested Amrita Rao to join the cast. Rumi Jaffery said, "Amrita Rao has shot with us for three days and it has turned out to be really well." —

Wearing the right colour can easily lift your mood. But how would one know what colour can do the trick for them? Veronique Henderson, creative director of Colour Me Beautiful, Europe's leading image consultants has now detailed what colour suits your personality best. Her list of colours is as follows: Red hot: Red is associated with action, vitality and courage. "If you are red-headed or have warm highlights make sure your chosen red is yellow-based. Think orange red or tomato. If you are pale and blonde go for a watermelon red. Those with dark hair and dark eyes should wear true reds and rubies," The Daily Express quoted Veronique as saying. Peaceful pink: "Orchids, hot pinks and cyclamens are fantastic for women with strong colouring while those with paler skin should keep their pinks pale and soft. Think blush pink or candy," said Veronique. Serene green: Being the colour of nature, green brings a sense of calm so wear it if one is anxious. It highlights a person's creative side and shows he or she is well balanced. "All greens are great for redheads but sea greens and peppermint shades look fantastic on those with light complexions. Teal always looks fabulous on those with darker complexions," said Veronique. Powerful purple: Purple is often associated with magic so it is no surprise it stimulates imagination and individuality and creates an air of mystery. Softer shades such as lavender show one's caring side. Dark-haired girls will look regal in darkish purple and it mixes well with most other colours. Think purple and lime for redheads and purple and pale blue for those with lighter hair. Baby blue: Blue is a non-threatening, neutral colour, which gives those who wear it feelings of peace and tranquillity. However Veronique said that one should always avoid wearing navy and white together because it will make them feel and look as if they are in uniform. Oranges and lemons: These playful colours bring out a person's fun side and increase their sexual energy. Look for these colours in patterns rather than wearing them in blocks of colour as it can be hard matching the right shade to one's skin tone. These colours look great on all redheads but for those having grey hair, they're best avoided, said Veronique. — ANI |
The interior fashion trend this season spells a riot of
colour
Block colours were all over the catwalk for spring and summer 2009 interiors, and it was fashionistas who took notice of the trend.
So it's goodbye to fussy, floral patterns and hello to bright confident, sometimes clashing, blocks of colour. And the joy of this trend is that it doesn't matter what colours you choose as long as there are plenty of them and you can swap them about when you are bored. In interiors fashion, the most on-trend look is for clashing colours and acid brights, but you may not fancy that to live in, so pick a few of your favourites and stick to a palette that will suit your house and lifestyle. A cream sofa with a riot of cushions in shades of brown and beige for the safe choice, or mix it up with blacks, greys and metallics for a fresher, edgier look. If you've been living in a sea of neutral for years, then throwing in a few colours in the accessories is a great way to start introducing colour to your home. In a plain hallway, try painting the stairs in darkening, or lightening shades of your favourite colour, or contrast a pile of cushions to your feature wall when the rest of the room is neutral. Wide stripes used sparingly will give the same effect. Look for either wallpaper or, if you're feeling really brave and have a roll of masking tape, trying painting it yourself. —

I know we are trying hard to get rid of plastic pollution and Chandigarh has successfully managed to hold onto the polybag ban. However, Chandigarh traders have some unique ways of cheating on the government and the policies. On a recent trip to a new and fancy supermarket, I was surprised to find that they handed me my goods in a plastic bag. On my way out, I asked the attendant. He pointed out that technically it was not a carry bag, since it lacked carry handles or the holes. It was a packaging bag. Cheating ingenuity is ubiquitous.
I was baffled on my very first visit to a shop selling electrical goods in Chandigarh. They asked me if I wanted to get a pukka bill or a kuccha bill. I was unaware of this diversity. It is a common practice here not to issue a 'Real' receipt although they take your real money and if you insist on one, the shopkeepers make a face and wonder about your stupidity. And the big shops play the same game as well. Sometimes, it is hard to even find the bona fide item. You might think you are buying a genuine Delonghi heater and bring home something that was hurriedly put together in a backyard of Jullundhar. Most of us dash to the store when the weather conditions turn nasty only to find that when you plug in the device, there is a 'whoosh' and a 'plop' and your house is plunged into darkness. 'Authorised dealer' is another dubious label - my experience here has taught me. And of course, once you have shelled out the money, your stature as the esteemed customer plummets like the ill-fated Skylab. The shopkeeper avoids you, lies to you, brushes you off and is plain belligerent to you. There are some stalwarts in Chandigarh who don't go down without a fight. I admired the tenacity of an older lady who came into one of the nicer grocery stores here, holding an open packet of peanuts. She wanted to return the packets since it contained a few rotten ones. She did not have the receipt and made no progress with the first line of defence. However, she persisted till she saw one of the owners and then went on to explain in a most gentle and motherly tone, why she should be refunded. She won the battle eventually. I have been cheated so many times here that I have developed a 'survivor' sense. I start out by thinking the worst of most shopkeepers and then end by being pleasantly surprised by those who truly deliver service and goods. Then I demonstrate my dedication to those stores in plethora and find that it pays off to be a regular customer. matkachowk@gmail.com |
