Master plan for Zirakpur, Dera Bassi out

The Punjab government has finally come out with the final master plan for Zirakpur and Dera Bassi towns. Prepared under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 2006, the land use would be freezed in the local planning areas of the two important towns, located along the Chandigarh-Delhi National Highway 22.

‘Tuk-tuk’ service from tomorrow

Fire Dept to verify authenticity of NOCs

In the wake of the recent incident of issuing NOC to City Emporia Mall, Industrial Area, Phase I, the Fire and Emergency Services Department of the municipal corporation is going to verify the authenticity of all NOCs issued by it to the government and commercial establishments in the city.

Con men held for duping woman
Chandigarh, August 8
Two tricksters who used to dupe people of ornaments on the pretext of gold polish were caught after a long chase by a Sector 55 woman here today. The accused have been identified as Khantar Kumar Shah and Mantoo, both residents of Bihar. They were later taken for medical examination and would be produced in the court tomorrow.

Xpressions-09 a big draw

The annual exhibition “Xpressions-’09” organised by Manav Mangal Smart School attracted a huge crowd on the first day today. Everybody appreciated the thoughtful picking up of themes. The pre-nursery section creatively portrayed the animal world and their habitat.

VAT Returns
e-filing made mandatory
Chandigarh, August 8
The UT Excise and Taxation Department has made e-filing of VAT returns mandatory for all those dealers whose annual turnover is above Rs 1 crore for manufacturing units and Rs 2 crore for trading units. This would be applicable for those dealers too whose ITC (Input Tax Credit) refund is more than Rs 1 lakh during the preceding year.

Gorkhas to scale Mt Leo Parigial

An Ambala-based liquor contractor was killed while his accountant sustained serious injuries when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a truck near the ST barrier on the Zirakpur-Ambala highway late last night. The deceased has been identified as Virender Kumar Garg (40) and the injured as Naresh Kapoor.
