Farmers not to sell land for highway
Our Correspondent

Greater Noida, May 25
Farmers of 12 villages have decided not to sell their lands at circle rates for the construction of peripheral highway that would pass through Noida. Land of more than two dozen villages are needed for the construction of peripheral highway coming from Delhi and Haryana to Noida.

The farmers took this decision during a mahapanchayat at Amarpur village in Dankore on Sunday.

Farmer leader Biraj Singh Nagar said it was an injustice to farmers and acquiring land in the same district at two different rates was unfair.

Kisan Morcha leader Teja Gujjar said farmers would soon hold another such mahapanchayat at Ladpura village to formulate their future course of action.

The National Highway Authority of India had been, reportedly, trying to convince farmers to give their land for the highway at circle rates.

Meanwhile, farmers of Rabupura held another panchjayat at Hazratpur village to oppose the acquisition of old Abadi land and warned the Greater Noida Authority that they would be forced to launch another agitation like Ghori Bachhera if the authority tries to acquire the old Abadi land.
