Sonika Bhatia
Tribune News Service

Gurgaon, May 20
In order to provide modern facilities in government hospitals, the state government has decided to incur Rs 90 crore on upgradation of facilities in civil hospitals of six districts including that of Gurgaon.

According to a state government spokesman, Rs 15 crore each would be spent on providing modern facilities in civil hospitals of six districts: Gurgaon, Rohtak, Faridabad, Hisar, Bhiwani and Sonepat. It has been learnt that the work of renovation of the existing buildings of these hospitals has been outsourced to National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCCL).

The city-based civil surgeon Dr S.S. Dalal said that the state government has approved Rs 15 crore for upgradation of health facilities in the local civil hospital. Out of this, Rs 5.50 crore would be spent on renovation of the existing building and the rest of amount would be utilized for purchasing modern equipment.

He said that a modern cancer ward was being set up in the local hospital and with this it would become the first government civil hospital of the state to have such facility.

The cancer ward would be 20-bedded, out of which five beds will be in ICU.

Dr Dalal affirmed that all medicines required for treatment of cancer were being given free. The civil hospital located here would also have more rooms in private ward so that separate rooms, on the pattern of private hospitals, can be given to the patients who can afford it and the fee for these would be much less than that of the private hospitals.

Presently, the civil hospital has 11 rooms in its private ward. Cleanliness in these rooms would also be ensured, the civil surgeon claimed.

Dr Dalal stated that the state government has filled up all the posts of doctors and other para-medical staff in the city because of which the patient turnout in OPD had increased by 11.23 per cent during the last four months this year as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.

Similarly, the patients who came for treatment in general surgery increased by 170 per cent, ortho surgery by 67.86 per cent, gynecology by 116.44 per cent, ENT by 187.50 per cent and onco surgery by 122.22 per cent.

The vice-chairman of DDA, Ashok Nigam today issued orders to all the DDA officials, outlining that the repair work of the cracked water pipelines on Command-I in Dwarka would be done with immediate effect and no tenders would be notified for the purpose as this results in an unnecessary delay.

New Delhi, May 20
They might have been bruised, but they have not lost the battle yet. Protesting against fee hike by private schools, parents have planned to observe ‘black day’ tomorrow.

Taking up the issues of “commercialisation of education and arbitrary fee hike by unaided private schools and the poor quality of education in government schools,” several parents’ organisations have given a call for a united agitation in the form of a silent march.

“We have realised all parents are victims of the government’s apathetic attitude. We must compel the government to take immediate and concrete action in the matter,” said Ashok Agarwal, president, All India Parents Association (AIPA).

The parents alleged that unaided private schools were taking advantage of the bad quality of education in government schools. “Private schools are exploiting parents by making them to pay exorbitant fees,” said Agarwal.

According to parents, this year government schools have received almost 80,000 more online admission applications as compared to last year.

“These extra applications are of those students who have been forced to leave private schools because of the hike in their fees,” said IS Gambhir, president, Delhi AIPA.

The parents also demanded legal intervention in the matter. “The hike in fees is illegal. The flouting of all laws with impunity by the unaided private school reflects their confidence that no action will be taken against them by any authority,” added Gambhir.
