Biker goons strike again
Snatch Rs 7 lakh from trader outside ICICI Bank
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 21
In yet another incident of robbery outside a bank, two motorcycle-borne men robbed a businessman of Rs 7 lakh today afternoon outside ICICI Bank in the Preet Vihar area of East Delhi.

The incident comes just two days after some bike-borne robbers killed a security guard and snatched Rs 18 lakh from a petrol pump owner outside Bank of India in Patparganj on Monday morning.

According to information, Zulfikar (37), who runs a meat packaging business, had withdrawn Rs 7 lakh from the Preet Vihar branch of ICICI Bank and was walking towards his car when the robbers struck and fled with the money bag. Zulfikar was accompanied by one of his office staff Aamir when the incident took place.

According to Zulfikar, the robbers were wearing helmets and it would be difficult to recognise them even if confronted with them. “The whole thing happened so fast that we could not even react. By the time we realised what had happened, the robbers had sped away quite far,” said Zulfikar recalling the incident.

According to him, they were only a couple of feet from getting into their car when the pillion driver on the speeding motorcycle snatched the bag. The two shouted for help and ran after the motorcycle, but could not catch them. “There was no guard outside the bank today. We tried to chase them but failed,” he said.

Zulfikar said that he often visited the bank for monetary transactions and had withdrawn much more money in the past.

According to the police, Pardeep, an eyewitness who runs a paan shop nearby said there were actually four criminals. The other two were waiting for their accomplices and they all fled together, he added.

The east Delhi police once again blamed the bank for not installing a close- circuit camera which could have helped them to nab the criminals.

“There are no close-circuit cameras. Now where do we go looking for them? People are careless and the police is held responsible for all problems,” said a police official when asked about developments in the case.

The cases of snatching and robbery by bikers in east Delhi has been on the rise since the past few months.

On Saturday morning, a woman journalist was robbed of Rs 3,000 by some bikers near Mother Dairy. While the police assures of strict vigilance and barricading after every incident, things return to normal laxity in no time.

Parents to intensify fight against fee hike
Tribune News Service

Faridabad, May 21
Thousands of parents in Haryana, especially in the areas falling in the National Capital Region (NCR), are feeling let down by the government in the state on the issue of fee hike by private schools.

The parents, agitating against the private schools under the banner of the “Haryana Abhibhavak Ekta Manch”, are now gearing for intensified struggle against the private schools and the government. Almost all the trade unions in the state as well as large a number of resident welfare associations and social organisations have extended support to the parents and the Haryana Abhibhavak Ekta Manch.

The general secretary of the Manch, K.L.Sharma alleged that the “apathy” on the part of the government machinery with regard to grievances of the parents was startling. The parents’ only demand was that the private schools must stop bending the rules and subject themselves to the rules before raising the fees.

The Manch alleged that district administrations and the district education officers in Haryana, especially in Faridabad and Gurgaon appear to be soft on school managements.

The agitation of the parents had begun much before the parliamentary elections in Haryana. The parents burnt the effigies of the district administration, the Haryana government, “education mafia” and politicians on April 1, April 13 and April 26 at various places in the district.

The managements have raised the fees citing the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission under which they had to raise the salaries of the teachers.

A number of parents said that if the government did not intervene, they would galvanise themselves in a big way in the coming assembly election in Haryana.
