CM has done nothing for villages: Kawariya
Charu Singh
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 18
Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate from North West Delhi Lok Sabha seat Meera Kawariya today lashed out at Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Speaking at a press conference, Kawariya alleged, “The Sheila Dikshit government has done nothing for people from below the poverty line and for villagers. Her domain of action remains limited to the Outer Ring Road only.”

Kawariya further said, “In late Sahib Singh Verma’s tenure the construction of Metro line was fast and it had reached Rithala. But the Metro work has been facing undue delays under the Sheila Dikshit government. It was planned to take the Metro line till Sonepat but there has been little to no progress in this regard.”

She added during Sahib Singh Verma’s tenure community centers were constructed in different villages across the capital. But the Sheila Dikshit government has neglected these centers. The government should take steps to repair them.

She demanded, “Farmers should be given compensation for their plots as per the market rates. They should be paid compensation for barren lands too. Lakes in rural areas should be redeveloped. The government must ensure proper and water facility in rural areas. The lal dora area of villages should be extended as this would give relief to many families.”

Kawariya further demanded that villagers who do not have plots should be allotted flats in Delhi. Sewer lines should be laid in villages. Schools offering education till Class XII should be constructed in villages and under-developed colonies. Besides, she demanded a sports academy offering state-of-the-art facilities be set up for students in North West Delhi.

Noida has traversed a long path as tony town
Parmindar Singh

Noida, April 18
Even the most optimistic person could not have dreamt that the four sleeping hamlets, constituting Noida, would one day develop into a modern township and an industrial hub.

A brainchild of the then Youth Congress leader, Sanjay Gandhi in 1976, Noida (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) has made remarkable development as an industrial belt and a township from dirt tracks to expressways, modern well-laid-out broad roads, flyovers and underpasses, a Metro rail connection expected to go into trial run any day now, one of the best software and IT hubs in the country, garment export industries, automobile and tractors manufacturing, shopping malls and multiplexes.

Besides, there are a modern stadium, an 18-hole golf course, two prestigious universities and scores of technology and management institutes, high-rise commercial and residential complexes, and large hospitals.

But problems do persist. There are frequent power cuts in an area declared, a “No Power Cuts Zone”, impure and insufficient water, poor drainage and scarce medical cover. Poor public transport and rising lawlessness continue to be the nightmare of the residents, industrialists and even district authorities.

But the next 10 years will transform it further when no vehicle will have to stop at crossings in the city, assure the planners.

There are a couple of prestigious projects under way which will transform Noida like Metro rail link, low-floor AC buses on local routes, the Taj Expressway project and sports city project. Some people firmly believe that in another 10 years, Noida’s picture will change further.

Imposing residential schemes will line both sides of Expressway between Noida and Greater Noida with skyscrapers proposed to have 100 storeys. Companies like Omaxe, J.P., Supertech, Unitech, etc are all busy giving a new skyline to Noida.

About 2,50,000 dwelling apartments will be made available to people living in adjoining Delhi. A foreign university is likely to have its campus in Noida in next 10 years.

In the last three years, prices of houses and land have gone up 200 and 300 times respectively.

Hospitals lack facilities to treat haemophilia
April 17 was World Haemophilia Day
Ananya Panda
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 18
According to the Haemophilia Federation of India (HFI) and World Health Organisation, India is home to over 1,00,000 haemophilia patients, yet our country’s premier health institute, AIIMS, doesn’t have any ‘haemophilic factor’ support.

This is despite union health minister Anbumani Ramados and the state health department assuring the HFI last year that some hospitals in Delhi would be equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities to treat the ailment, which is congenital and caused due to lack of certain blood proteins called clotting factors.

The state health department had said the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital would treat Patients with Haemophilia (PWH). But they too do not have the facilities to provide complete medication to haemophilia patients, said Indira Venkatraman, head of the HFI, Delhi, today on the occasion of World Haemophilia Day.

Doctors say haemophilia is an incurable chronic bleeding disorder. But they assert that it can be managed. Patients bleed internally, mostly in the joints, muscles and organs like the brain. They have to live with severe deformities, if not given immediate medication.

Infusing anti-haemophilia factor (AHF) can only treat the disease. The infusion is needed whenever the patient starts bleeding.

Haemophilia affects only men. As per the WHO, nearly three lakh men suffer from the disease worldwide. The HFI has identified 13,000 patients in India, of which nearly 50 per cent need infusions every month.

But the treatment is exorbitant as India imports AHF concentrates.

The HFI has urged the central and the state governments to facilitate free haemophilia care to the affected.

Indira said, “The central and the state governments must provide free haemophilia factor and set up comprehensive care units in remote areas of the country.”

She said Ramadoss had promised that NACO would help patients. But nothing had been done so far, she alleged.

She called for psycho-social support for the patients and their families as the medication costs are high.

Meanwhile, the HFI today opened a three-day charity exhibition at Travancore Art Gallery here to raise funds for the cause.
