Delhi to vote on May 7
New Delhi, March 2 A total number of seven seats are there in the Capital but after delimitation, the names of five constituencies have changed. Now they are known as North-East Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi. The names of Chandni Chowk and South Delhi have not been changed. Of them North-West Delhi is a reserved constituency for scheduled caste. In the last elections Karol Bagh was reserved constituency. The notification for election will be held on April 11 and the last date for filing of nomination of candidates is April 18. Scrutiny of nominations will held on April 20 and the last date of withdrawal is April 22. The election in all the seven parliamentary is scheduled to be held on May 7 and counting of votes will be held on May 16. Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi government, Satbir Silas Bedi, said, “Election code of conduct has been enforced from today. We are working on it. Electoral roll for the entire Capital has been completed. Delhi has 110.6 lakh voters with the addition of 3.7 lakh new electors after November 29, 2008 assembly elections. Now we are looking for manpower and material for elections. Last year we had staff of 80, 000. We expect more people for the smooth conduct of this election.” As far as security arrangement is concerned, Bedi said that she would talk to the Delhi police commissioner to make tight security so that no untoward incident took place during elections. There has been major change in the area of the constituencies after delimitation. In the last election entire trans-Yamuna area was known as East Delhi parliamentary constituency. Now it has been divided into two constituencies–East and North-East. Jamia Nagar and Okhla village of Muslim-dominated area were part of south Delhi but in this election they have been included in North East Delhi constituency. The majority of Punjabi-dominated areas were in south Delhi that was why it was always represented by BJP. But after rescheduling of constituency, Punjabi areas like Greater Kailash, Malviya Nagar and R. K. Puram have been attached with the New Delhi. Consequently, South Delhi seat has become a an area dominated by Jats and Gujjars. Chandni Chowk constituency was known as walled city area but it has spread up to
