Additional Sessions Judge Sanjiv Jindal today denied bail to Jitesh, accused in a gangrape case.
Jitesh was arrested by the police on the basis of phone numbers provided by the victim through which he used to threaten her.

A minor altercation took an ugly turn when four labourers allegedly bludgeoned to death a 52-year-old railway employee at the railway station here late last night.

Ban on sale of non-ISI mark helmets

The Chandigarh Administration has prohibited the sale of non-ISI mark helmets in the city. The district magistrate, R.K. Rao has asked for immediate check on the sale of non-ISI mark poor quality helmets in order to ward off danger to human life and to prevent the gullible from buying a cheap/poor non-ISI headgear.
Hope for patients with heart ailments

The effort of making the city smoke-free, which was on top of the agenda of the UT administration, has failed to since its implementation last year. Only 1,272 challans have been issued in past 16 months.

Sukhna Tragedy
Ranjan died due to drowning: Report
Chandigarh, November 5
The police today said the post-mortem of Ranjan, who drowned at Sukhna Lake on Monday, confirmed that the death was caused due to asphyxia by drowning.
Sources in the police said the viscera sample of the victim had been taken and would be sent for chemical examination.
Woman dies of bee stings
Kharar, November 5
Gurpreet Kaur (23), a resident of Badali village, died of bee stings today.
Gurpreet Kaur was married to Lakhvir Singh around eight months ago. She was six-month pregnant. At around 10 am, Gurpreet was working outside her home storing cow dung cakes, when a swarm of bees attacked her.

Members divided on Central status issue

The Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) has formed a new Joint Action Committee (JAC) to start the struggle for the Central status for the university once again. DAVS-8 charging Rs 2,000 extra?

While the UT administration promises to check the unregulated fees of various private institutions, DAV School, Sector 8, is allegedly charging an extra around Rs 2,000 from students not approved by the UT administration.

Seminar on agriculture from tomorrow

Panjab University is organising a two-day national symposium on “New Biology in Agriculture” on November 7-8 at the Mathematics Auditorium, PU Campus. The sessions and discussion would focus on the themes in relation to agriculture, transgenic crops-current status and perspectives.
School buses told to install speed governors by December 1
Chandigarh, November 5
The Chandigarh administration has fixed December 1 as the deadline for installing speed governors in the school buses to prevent accidents.
It has been directed that the speed governors will be installed in such a way that the vehicle is incapable of being driven at a speed of 40 km per hour under Section 112 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
