Nine hurt as Sumo rams into tree

Passers by and the police help save the lives of nine persons, including seven women, who sustained injuries after a Sumo van ferrying them rammed into a tree on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, Pohir village, near here today. A cyclist was also injured in the incident.

Sexy siren Meghna Naidu, Bhangra King Sukhbir and Bollywood singer Labh Janjua were in the city to perform at musical nite at GRD Academy. Ludhianvis danced along with the performers. Sukhbir made the city danced to his peppy numbers while Labh Janjua as always gave his best shot by starting with his favourite number “Mundeya toh bach ke rahein”. People could not take their eyes off Megha Naidu while she gave a scintillating performance on the stage.

The hot and spicy food of Ludhiana is what actor Divya Dutta misses the most. It was at Shiv Chaat Bhandar in Ghumar Mandi where she used to dig in hot ‘tikkis’. Sharing her love for food, the bubbly actress says, "I miss the spicy food of Ludhiana. Though ‘alu tikki’ and ‘chhole kulche’ are available in Mumbai also, but they lack the perfect taste and aroma.”

Woman, 2 kids jump before train

A woman, along with her two children, died jumping before a train. Upset over a domestic dispute, Pooja Singla, wife of Sunil Kumar, took her two children, Mohit Singla (9) and Madhvi Singla (7), with her and drove her car towards Ludhiana and then to Buddha Nullah railway line.

Panchayat seeks youths’ arrest

The Akali panchayat is determined to stage a dharna against the police if it fails to arrest the accused who had attacked an 80-year-old man. They have also decided to disrupt the traffic at the Ghorewala Chowk at Ludhiana Road and Raikot.

Acid thrown on woman
Ludhiana, October 12
A minor altercation between the neighbours took an ugly turn when the two youth allegedly threw acid on a woman at Jadhewal Basti. The victim sustained burn injuries on her legs and a shoulder. She was taken to the local civil hospital and was discharged after first aid.
