3 killed in gang war
New Delhi, July 9 Shamim Chaudhry, a bad character of the area with over a dozen cases against him was shot by two unidentified motor cycle-borne assailants. The assailants too were gunned down later by members of the Chaudhry’s gang while they were fleeing. Shamim, who suffered 3 bullet injuries, was taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital were he was declared brought dead. According to the police, two assailants who shot Shamim were found dead some distance away. It is possible that Shamim’s men shot them. A revolver and a pulsar motor cycle were found with their bodies. The registration number of the motorcycle (DL ST 4875) was found to be fake as the number is registered to a scooter. A wig worn to conceal the identity was also found near one of the assailants. The identity of the two has not yet been established. According to the police, some live cartridges were found from them. Jaspal Singh, DCP (North East), who visited the spot in the night, said that inter-gang rivalry appeared to be the cause behind the killings. “Chaudhry was a known criminal of the area. It could be the work of any of his enemies. No arrest has been made so far,” he added. This is the third incident of shootout in the national Capital in recent times. On Tuesday, Mahesh Kapoor, 52, an employee with a Nokia Priority showroom on Vikas Marg in East Delhi was killed while returning from a bank after withdrawing Rs 135,000. The assailants fired in the air before escaping. Late on Monday, two brothers were gunned down in the Ballimaran area of the Walled City when their neighbours called them out of their house and fired at them. |
DSP in mire of controversy
Faridabad, July 9 The two businessmen, Vikas Walia and Vijay Kalra, who are local residents also, have in a letter to the district police chief, alleged that the DSP has “benami” property/stakes in crusher (No 14) in Dhauj “crusher plant zone”. They alleged that the DSP was using goons to illegally evict them from their occupation of the area. According to them, they were using the premises/crusher (No 14) in the crusher zone following a legal agreement with a private firm called Ganesh Stone Crushing Company, claimed to be owned by two partners who are from Bhiwani district. The alleged police officer is also from the same district. The agreement was for two years and they still have more than one year to use the land, the businessmen complained. Darshan Lal Malik, when contacted, said that his name was dragged in the controversy as he was also from the Bhiwani district as are the two partners of the Ganesh Stone Crushing company. He also alleged that the complainant parties are trying to drag his name unnecessarily. This is being done to pressurize the owners of Ganeshi Stone Crushing company not to annul the tenement agreement, said Malik. However, the two residents alleged that the DSP was using threats to get the premises vacated within a few days in disregard to their tenement rights. They alleged that some goons also visited the plant site on Saturday night and threatened them to vacate the premises. The Crusher Zone falls under the jurisdiction of DSP, Ballabgarh, in this district. According to businessmen, the DSP wants to dispose of premises and is in a hurry to evict them from their tenements. Significantly, a private security guard of crusher (No 25) was found murdered last night in the crusher zone area. Although the murder incident does not seem to be related to the DSP episode, many say that it suggests of a deep involvement of mafia and other vested interests in the stone crushing business. The two businessmen also urged the district police chief to protect their lives and property from the DSP and his goons. One of the two has also moved the local court on the issue. The court, in response, has issued summons to the DSP and others and fixed July 11 for hearing the case. |

Don’t miss meals for work….It may lead to cancer
New Delhi, July 9 According to oncologists, the sudden splurge of MNCS and 24x7 call centres, has brought about a drastic change in the lifestyle of many employees, particularly among the young professionals. In a race to meet deadlines and to cope with the pressure of meetings, a lot of compromises are made by these executives which include skipping meals, working on an empty stomach for long periods, relying on junk food and, more than anything else, exposure to smoking and alcohol at a relatively young age. Dr
Amit Bhargava, consultant oncologist, Max Healthcare, here says, “Colon
cancer, esophageal cancer, gall bladder cancer and stomach cancer cases
have increased tremendously in the past few years in the young men in
the 25 to 35 year age group. I have been coming across many such
cases these days.” Elaborating, Dr Bhargava said, “Non-nutritious
diet leads to a deficiency in essential vitamins and minerals, leading
to weakening of human tissues and organs. Such a drastic change in
lifestyle makes you prone to lifestyle-related disorders which includes
even cancer because when a weak body is subject to alcohol and smoke it
increases the chances of cancer”. Talking specifically of stomach and esophageal cancer, he said when the stomach mucosa (inner wall of stomach) is subjected to the corroding effects of acid, which is further aggravated by being empty stomach, alcohol and smoking, this causes swelling of the stomach wall (gastritis), leading to benign ulcers. These ulcers, if not treated properly and well in time may lead to cancerous growth. Similarly, hyperacidity due to the above-mentioned reasons lead to gastro-esophageal reflux (i.e. back flow of acid into the esophagus). This leads to damage to the esophageal inner wall, the normal mucosa changes into dysplastic mucosa (away from normal). Prolonged and continuous damage may lead to development of esophageal cancers. Other
oncologists, especially those engaged in research at the cancer research
centres here, concur and say that in addition to this a stressful
lifestyle, reduces one’s immunity, i.e. the capacity to fight against
infection and cancer, making the body more susceptible to develop the
deadly disease. |

4th OBC list expected today
New Delhi, July 9 With most of the seats reserved for OBCs lying vacant even after the third cut-off list, a fourth cut-off list with maximum relaxation for OBC candidates seems inevitable.
