Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today threw open the bridge on the Sidhwan canal to public. The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.26 crore, connects Ishar Nagar to Shimla Puri.

8 hurt in brawl over car parking

Work on development of parks begins

Harish Rai Dhanda plants a sapling in a park in Rishi Nagar Colony in Ludhiana The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has given a nod to the project for development of four existing parks out of the total seven parks in Rishi Nagar Colony here. This was stated by Harish Rai Dhanda, chief parliamentary secretary, Local Bodies, Punjab, while planting a sapling in one of the parks to mark the commencement of development work here today.

PSEB staff to protest victimisation

Taking strong exception to the failure of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) management to implement the agreement with the trade unions and stop vindictive transfers of union activists posted at Guru Gobind Singh Thermal Plant, Ropar, to far away places, the PSEB Employees Federation (AITUC) has decided to launch an agitation.

A turban-tying competition and a blood donation camp was organised at Guru Amar Dass Public School, Farour. Giani Gurbachan Singh, head granthi, Shri Darbar Sahib, was the chief guest. He said mother plays an important role in shaping the lifestyle of her children. He urged Sikhs, especially youths to wear turbans. Participants between five to 100 years of age took part in the turban-tying competition. At least 100 people took part in the competition.

A youth leadership training, hiking-trekking and adventure camp was organised by Panjab University, Chandigarh, for girls at Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh recently. At least 90 girls from 18 colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh took part in it.

B.Sc Agri interview begins at PAU
Ludhiana, July 9
Interviews for the six year B.Sc. Agriculture programme of Punjab Agricultural University for the current academic session started today. According to dean, College of Agriculture, Milkha Singh Aulakh, this newly- added programme will focus on admission of rural students. The students, after completing their matriculation, will become eligible for admission to this programme. According to registrar R.K. Mahey, students showed keen interest in this programme. He further said candidates whose names started from alphabet A to G were interviewed today and those whose names started from H to M will be interviewed on July 10. Those with alphabet N to Y will be interviewed on July 11, he added.
