Former union Home Minister and Congress stalwart Buta Singh has urged the election commission to impose a complete ban on those MPs or MLAs who were once proved criminals by hon'ble courts, to contest any election.

Addressing media persons here today, Buta Singh said, these types of steps were need of hour to save the democracy, which was being exploited by some elements who were taking advantages of their posts as done by BJP MP Babu Bhai Katara who was nabbed in smuggling people abroad.

He demanded immediate disqualification of these types of elements from the parliament. Replying a question on the defeat of the congress in Punjab, Buta Singh held responsible previous congress Government and PPCC for the defeat of the congress due to their anti-balmiki and anti-majhabi decisions.

He said that on the clearcut intereference of former local bodies department, Ch Jagjit Singh, previous congress government led by Captain Amarinder Singh ignored the interests of balmikis and majhabi Sikhs, who gave befitting reply to the party.

He warned that the history of Uttar Pardesh could be repeated in Punjab if the congress party went on ignoring the dalits.

He told that congress party could win only five out of total 29 dalit seats whereas three of the winning five seats were contributed by Dera Sacha Sauda.
