Politicising the issue relating to scrapping of the MCA course in Lyallpur Khalsa College here, president of the management and former MP Balbir Singh and SAD district (urban) president Gurcharan Singh Channi today alleged that the vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University had taken a decision at the behest of Congress leaders who had appointed him on the post.

Giving a handout of the results of the examination of the course that was announced this morning, Balbir Singh said there was no ground of scrapping the course as the college students had managed the top six out of 10 positions in the first semester and the top eight out of 10 ranks in the third semester. He said that since the students had been performing very well and the college had maintained a complete infrastructure and appointed qualified staff, there was no reason for disallowing fresh admissions.

Balbir Singh pointed out that there were nearly 20 colleges in the region which had sought the approval from the All-India Council for Teaching, Jaipur, two years ago for starting the B.Ed course, but the university had withheld the sanction to allow admissions without any solid ground.

Channi said the Chief Minister was likely to take up the issue in the interest of hundreds of students.
