BJP leaders sheltering drug mafia: SAD Jalandhar, April 26 Speaking in a police public meeting organised at Qazi Mandi falling under ward number 29 today, Dhillon alleged without naming anyone that some BJP leaders and certain police officers had hand in gloves with the drug mafia. Dhillon said that Qazi Mandi had been infamous for drug mafia during previous Amarinder Singh-led Congress government. He said, “We thought when our government comes to power, we will wipe out the drug menace from the locality but due to shelter of some BJP leaders and policemen, the drug mafia became more active and people are criticising SAD for that.” Interestingly the police public meeting was called on the initiation of Munsha Singh, the president of SAD unit of ward 29 falling under Jalandhar Central constituency. He invited leaders of the ward of all the political parties. Even district Congress secretary Jatinder Sharma residing in ward 29 was present in the meeting but none of the local BJP leader was present in the meeting. However, a local BJP leader Krishan Lal Sharma, residing in ward 12 falling under Jalandhar North constituency, was present. Denying the allegations levelled by Sabi, Sharma claimed that none of BJP leaders was sheltering drug mafia. Addressing the gathering SP City I, S.K. Kalia, admitted that some of the policemen might be conniving the drug mafia but the policemen at large were trying to eradicate the drug menace not only from Qazi Mandi but also from the entire city. Kalia said that it would be possible only with the support of general public. He reiterated that public should come forward to provide information about the drug peddlers to the police. DSP City I Mukhwinder Singh was also present in the meeting. |
Five new cases; JCT blamed
for jaundice scare Phagwara, April 26 Sharda along with Phagwara SDM Amarjitpal and senior medical officer Dr Adarsh Sood again visited the most effected area of Onkar Nagar today where five new cases of jaundice were detected. The Nagar Council and health authorities were monitoring the situation day and night and are reporting to Parveen Kumar, OSD to Punjab CM, and Principal Secretary Local Bodies Department D.S. Bains on a daily basis. The officials supervised the sanitary situation of the houses. This correspondent found the condition of Onkar Nagar miserable. Though cleaning machines were actively working to clean blocked sewerages and white clay was sprinkled on both sides of the streets, it was not an easy job for anyone to pass through the streets without covering their nose to prevent from bad foul smell. Sharda alleged that despite several reminders, JCT officials did not pay any heed to their advice and overflow of dirty water from the JCT premises into the streets of Onkar Nagar continues. Showcause notice would soon be sent to JCT authorities to control their overflowing water, Sharda added. Accusing the JCT of releasing the water in night hours, she said it takes more than 24 hours to clean this dirty water coming out from JCT. Meanwhile Tribune saw one big house of 17 rooms owned by JCT Mills, where 85 migratory labourers, including women and children were living without any toilet. Sharda asked the mill authorities to make arrangements for toilets for the convenience of the labourers. Officials maintained that old unathorised water and sewerage connections, mixing of water and sewerage pipes besides JCT Mill's overflowing water could be considered as root cause of the problem. On the other hand, health authorities are vigilant about the situation and the teams of doctors were supervising the situation. A separate ward for jaundice patients has also been set up in local civil
hospital. |
