Security left out at Phagwara rly station
Phagwara, September 4 The overcrowded Phagwara railway station, through which 80 trains pass daily, is vulnerable to terrorist strikes. Passengers get in unchecked through the godown area. There is no metal detector at the entry point and it was found unmanned on Monday. Train compartments went unchecked. When a Tribune team visited the railway station, no police personnel were found at the entry point. There was no checking of passengers’ luggage at arrival or departure of trains. The Phagwara railway police post spokesman, Mr Hardip Singh, said the staff had gone to Jalandhar for weekly meeting and contended that security measures had been beefed up following threats. |

Jalandhar, September 4 The trainees are trained in the hall which has broken doors and windows. Wild vegetation on all sides is home to mosquitoes and flies, making the trainees vulnerable to infections and uneasy nights. The toilet doors are perforated and can’t be bolted from inside. The compound wall in the front collapsed during a recent spell of rain.An old wooden table in a corner inside the main hall adjacent to the toilet is all that is for a kitchen. A visitor has to walk a muddy path to enter the headquarters. In contrast to the training area, the office of the training staff is well furnished. |

Jalandhar, September 4 “My work gives a detailed account of the role played by the self-claimed Gurus of the Mina sect, particularly Pirthi Chand, Miharban and Harji. The motive of the Minas was to establish their own guruship,” said Dr Simarjit Singh. In his book, the author has tried to explore the origin and history of the Mina sect and place it in the broader context of the sectarian developments within the early phase of Sikhism. He claims in his book that the Minas had even written poetry using the name of “Nanak”. The works produced by the Mina Gurus have been presented in this book. |
