Mehak Wadehra of KVM School bracketed with Yatish Jain of DAV Public School topped the district in the All India Senior Secondary Examination (AISSE) of Class X conducted by CBSE with 96.4 per cent marks.

Midwife booked for disposing of body of new born
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 27
A midwife of nearby Kup village has been booked under Section 318 and 120B of the IPC for allegedly concealing birth of a child by secretly disposing of its body.

NRI comes to aid of 16-yr-old heart patient
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 27
Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia, an alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University and NRI philanthropist settled in Canada, has offered to contribute towards the medical expenses to be incurred on the surgery of Harjinder Singh (16) of Umaidpur village near Sahnewal. This is in response to a story published in Ludhiana Tribune today.

Teenager done to death
Ludhiana, May 27
A 15-year-old boy, working in a shop selling glass products, was murdered in the city late last night. The victim, Rohit Kumar, a resident of Prem Nagar, was allegedly beaten to death by two teenagers working in the same shop. DSP R.K. Sharma said the boys had some argument over the working in the shop. The argument led to exchange of blows, which resulted in Rohit's death. He allegedly died due to injuries on his private parts.

Bharowal is chief of cooperative employees’ body
Ludhiana, May 27
Gurmail Singh Bharowal, a leader of co-operative employees in Punjab, has been elected president of the All India Cooperative Employees' Federation. He seeks to carry on his employees welfare services at the naitonal level now. Mr Bharowal said the co-operative movement in the country can realise its optimum utility if co operatives socieits come together and provide better amenities to workers and employees.

A group of representatives of Kirti Kisan Union of the Ludhiana unit met Mr R.K. Jaiswal, SSP, Jagraon, today and demanded police action against the person who hit Sukhdev Singh Chaktaike, vice president of Raikot unit, with his car.

In a major success against piracy, a team of the police seized about 10,000 , VCDs, DVDs and MP3s from four shops in Bhadaur House market today. Most of the seized discs were of porn movies.

SBI launches SME city credit centre
Ludhiana, May 27
Mr Hemant Contractor, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India (SBI), Chandigarh circle, inaugurated a small and medium enterprises (SME) city centre here today. The centre would centralise the entire credit process for SME business, resulting in better speed, efficiency and higher consistency. The centre would handle nearly 7,000 accounts during the current year.

Small units unhappy with govt on octroi

Even as the state government claims that it is determined to abolish octroi, small-scale industrialists here have little faith in these promises. Industry, which is quite disappointed with the government for its failure to solve its problems, feels the government’s statements these days have more to do with coming elections than with people welfare.

Tagore school gets 100 pc result
Sahnewal, May 27
For the fourth time Tagore International Senior Secondary School here has registered 100 per cent results in the CBSE class X examination. Among the toppers of the school, Navdeep singh secured 90 per cent marks, Satwant Kaur 85 per cent, Navpreet Kaur 84 per cent, Uttamjit Singh 83 per cent and Dildeep Singh got 81 per cent marks.

42 cases settled at Lok Adalat
Ludhiana, May 27 The District Legal Services Authority organised a Lok Adalat here to resolve the disputes between the litigants through amicable settlement. Two Benches heard the cases and disposed of 42 cases involving settlements worth Rs 62 lakh. In all 141 cases were placed before the adalat.
