Striking doctors release charter of demands

18-yr-old girl found murdered
Chandigarh , May 21
An 18-year-old girl was found murdered here today. The body of the victim Ranju Rai, a nursing student of a local private medical complex, was found in a gunny sack that was recovered from the Kumbra village pond today.

Monkey menace spreads
Chandigarh, May 21
Hundreds of monkeys can be seen loitering around houses, streets and markets of Sectors 7, 8 and 26, besides certain other areas in the same belt. They have shifted base from the PGI and Panjab University compounds where the Forest Department had “used the services of langurs” to take care of the problem.

Rise in crime worries Panchkula residents

On May 4, a gang of masked robbers struck at Kharag Mangoli, a slum colony, in Old Panchkula and injured six persons of two families, four of them seriously, by attacking them with batons indiscriminately. They decamped with cash and valuables worth thousands of rupees.

Dental college staff hold rally
Panchkula, May 21
In protest against the management, members of the BRS Dental College and Hospital Employees Union, organised a rally throughout the surrounding villages and raised anti-management slogans here today.

Mr Ashok Kumar Sharma
Mr Ashok Kumar Sharma (59), Senior Operator in The Tribune, died on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. He had been serving this organisation since 1972. His cremation, today, was largely attended. He is survived by a son and daughter. His son, Mr Abhishek Sharma, is also a Tribune employee and works in the advertisement section. TNS

Lab technician ends life
Contradictory suicide notes recovered
Chandigarh, May 21
A 33-year-old lab technician allegedly ended his life by hanging himself at his Shubash Nagar residence in Manimajra in the wee hours today. The police recovered two suicide notes from near the body.

Motor cycles stolen
Chandigarh, May 21
Two motor cycles were stolen from the city. In another incident, thieves decamped with 840 kg of fencing wire from Sector 25. Elsewhere, a house in Sector 41 was burgled. The local police also held one person on charges of carrying five grams of smack.

The local police today booked Balkar Singh, a Punjab policeman, for allegedly firing in the air in Baltana here late last night.

96,261 children given polio drops
Chandigarh, May 21
As many as 96,261 children were administered polio drops as part of the nationwide pulse polio campaign, which evoked tremendous response in the city. Under this campaign, children in the 0-5 age group were given two additional drops of polio vaccine. People from all walks of society were seen taking their children to the nearest polio booth.

Moirangthem Anthony Singh clinched gold (1 minutes 51.30 seconds) in single scull (500m, M1x) event in the Chandigarh State Challenger Rowing Championship for Men held at the Lake Club here yesterday. Lakhwinder Singh and Gurtej Singh won gold medal clocking 1 minutes 53.84 seconds in double scull (M2 x) (500m) event. The races were conducted on a 500-m water course as per the RFI rules.
