Deepankar Garg, a student of Little Flower Convent School, Sector 14, topped in the tricity in the matriculation examination conducted by ICSE by securing 96 per cent marks.

SC takes notice of apathy towards animals in zoos
Chandigarh, May 17
The scale of official apathy towards animals housed in zoos across India is well documented. But the issue has now caught the eye of the Supreme Court. Taking up a petition filed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) which has sought a ruling on the sorry state of animals in Indian zoos, the apex court has ordered 37 zoos in charge in question to explain the charges of cruelty against them.

A special concert for kathak lovers

Chandigarh, May 17
The versatility of technique in dance patterns, aesthetic excellence and vibrant grace marked the special kathak concert by students and gurus of the Kathak Kendra, Jaipur. It was organised by the Jaipur Kathak Kendra, Jaipur, and Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, at the Tagore Theatre here this evening. The programme opened with a group kathak dance led by Rekha Thakar in a vandana and moved on to present pure kathak nritya set to the time cycle of 16 beats.

Art show opens

Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Mr Krishna Mohan yesterday inaugurated the annual Art Exhibition of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi. He also gave away prizes to the awardees at Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10.

Raids were conducted on eight chemist shops by a Drug Inspector and intoxicating drugs which were allegedly being misused seized. Of the eight shops, three were located in Mohali , three at Kurali and one each at Bharatgarh and Kiratpur Sahib.
