Complaint redressed: The District Consumer Forum, Hoshiarpur, has accepted the complaint of Mr Karnail Singh ,resident of Tanda ,and ordered the National Insurance Company to pay a sum of Rs 4,93,750 along with Rs5,000 as compensation within a period of two months to the complainant.

Man throws acid on wife: A resident of Basti Sheikh allegedly tried to pour acid down his wife’s throat burning her mouth here on Wednesday. Praveen, a mother of five, worked as labourer. Her husband, Narinder, a drunkard, allegedly harassed her for money. After an altercation, the accused allegedly threw acid on her mouth in front of the children.

College building illegal: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued orders to the competent authority to remove the encroachment in the forest area by the management of IITT Engineering College,
Pojewal. The court had declared the building of the IITT Engineering College,
Pojewal( Nawanshahr) an unauthorized construction in the forest area in violation of the Section 4 & 5 of the Forest Act,the Deputy Commissioner said.

Man run over by train: An 85-year-old man was run over by the Amritsar-Sealdah train near Mauli railway crossing here Wednesday morning. Dhanna Ram of Hadiabad locality was crossing the railway tracks at Mauli village when the mishap occurred. The body was handed over to family members after postmortem.Couple attacked: Four masked miscreants attacked an elderly couple and decamped with Rs 60,000 in cash from their house at nearby Uchcha Pind village on the intervening night of May 16 and May 17. The miscreants entered the house of Amar Singh (70) and attacked his wife, Rachhpal Kaur (66), and then Amar Singh with sharp-edged weapons inflicting serious injuries. Accused held: The Jalandhar police has arrested Gangeshwer of village Massa in Bihar and brought him to Goraya.He is an accused in the murder of Bindeshwar and Raj Kumar Paswan at village Dhaleta near Goray on May 5.
