French court blocks Clemenceau transfer to India

Paris, February 15
France’s highest court, the State Council, today ordered Paris to suspend the transfer to India of the asbestos-lined decommissioned warship Clemenceau.

The court issued a fast-track ruling in response to complaints by Greenpeace and three anti-asbestos groups fighting to block the ship’s transfer to India as an environmental and health hazard.

The Clemenceau has been waiting in the Indian Ocean for several weeks pending a decision by India’s Supreme court on allowing it into the country. — AFP
