Malik to meet PM tomorrow
Tribune News Service

Srinagar, February 15
Two days after getting an invitation to meet the Prime Minister, the JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yaseen Malik, here today announced his party’s decision to meet Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Friday.

A two-member team comprising Malik and general secretary Ghulam Rasool Dar will meet the Prime Minister in response to the Centre’s move to broaden the scope of dialogue process with separatist leaders in Jammu and Kashmir. This significantly follows the Prime Minister’s decision to convene an all-party meeting with the leaders of both the mainstream and separatist political parties of the state to discuss Kashmir issue on February 24.

Announcing his party leaders’ collective decision to meet the Prime Minister, the JKLF chairman opined that “it is not a dialogue process but a consultation process”. “If we call it a dialogue process it will be injustice to those who sacrificed their lives,” Mr Malik said. This decision came after consultations with the party units in PoK, England and the USA followed by today’s Working Committee meeting here.

The Malik sought result- oriented talks and said the APHC-Centre talks did not achieve any results. He added that different ideological groups and militant leaders should be involved in the dialogue process where decisions are taken. Making a comparison with the Centre’s talks with the NSCN in Nagaland, Mr Malik said that while the peace process was on people were getting killed in Jammu and Kashmir. He held that the JKLF had an open agenda for Friday’s meeting with the Prime Minister at his official residence.

Mr Malik said he would present the “transparent democratic verdict” of the people of Kashmir in favour of their involvement in any dialogue process to resolve the Kashmir issue.
