Manipur Governor visits PAU

Ludhiana, February 10
The Manipur Governor, Dr S.S. Sidhu today visited Punjab Agricultural University here. He was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr K.S. Aulakh, and other senior scientists and teachers of the university.

Dr Sidhu appreciated the outstanding contribution of the PAU in the progress of agriculture across the country and for ensuring food security. He said the PAU had made Punjabis feel proud across the country and the university’s contribution was being appreciated and acknowledged world over.

Welcoming the guest, Dr Aulakh expressed gratitude to the governor for showing love and respect for the university. He assured that the PAU would continue with its endeavour of improving upon the agricultural growth, besides making the farmers to compete on global level.

Inter-college competition

Ludhiana, February 10
Two-day inter-college competition started at Master Tara Singh College here yesterday. At least 200 students participated. The function started with the rendering of a shabad.

Poster-making and collage-making competition elicited a good response. Debate and quiz were also held.

Results: Poem recitation: special prize: Poonam, first: Pawandeep, second: Sonam, third: Manasi; debate: first: Upasana Prasher, second: Manjula Grover, third: Aditi Bajaj; quiz: first: SCD Government College for Boys, second: MTSM College for Women; poster-making: first: Jaspreet Dua, second: Jasmine, third: Varinder; collage-making: first: Rekha, second: Suruchi, third: Jashandeep.

Economics quiz at GCW College

Ludhiana, February 10
An Economics quiz was organised by the Economics Department and Planning Forum of Government College for Women, Ludhiana. Team B comprising Medhavi, Nancy, Shweta and Team C comprising Pinky, Puneet and Prabhjot stood Ist and IInd respectively.

Principal of the college, Ms Prabhjot Kaur presided over the function as the Chief Guest. She congratulated the winners and members of the Planning Forum for organising the function. Ms Balbir Bajaj, Head of Economics Department and Ms Harpreet Gill, Head of Planning Forum gave away the prizes.

Seminar at DIMT

Doraha Institute of Management and Technology (DIMT) organised a seminar on 'careers and courses' available to students after graduation, at Mai Bhago College for Women, Ramgarh here today. Dr Manjit Kaur Walia, Principal welcomed and introduced the resource personnel, Dr R.S. Gupta, Director, Prof V J Rai, Prof Ms Kulbir Kaur and Ms Gurmeet Kaur of Doraha Institute of Management and Technology, Doraha.

Dr Gupta initiated the discussion by informing the students about various careers and courses available after doing B.Com and BA. Prof V.J. Rai emphasised the need for doing MBA,MCA, M.Sc. (I T), PGDCA courses to compete in the global market. Ms Kulbir Kaur informed informed the students of the existence of the training and placement cell at DIMT Doraha, which provided free coaching for the entrance test for MBA/MCA courses in the month of June, 2006.

Dr N.L. Sharma, Head of the English Department thanked the learned speakers for giving valuable information to the students to opt for the right career and course.

Global trends discussed

The local RIMT Institute of Management and Computer Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh was visited by two eminent husband-wife duo, Mr Ashok Kumar and Ms Kiran Kumar settled in Dubai and Canada respectively. They both have a rich experience in foreign education in the field of management and engineering.

Mr Ashok Kumar is the CEO of the Indian School in Dubai which boasts of 9000 students.

Mathematics Day organised

Ludhiana, February 10
BCM College of Education celebrated Mathematics Day today. Mr R. B. Khanna, vice-president, Mr S. K. Mehta, general secretary and Mr S. D. Kalia, principal of the college were present on the occasion.

The function started with a small skit emphasizing the importance of mathematics in our daily life. Students participated in different competitions under the guidance of Ms Harpreet Kaur Taneja. The function was intended to reduce the fear of mathematics in a student's mind and to show that Mathematics could be fun.
