Patch up move between 2 JKLF factions
Jammu, November 30 The JKLF suffered a split when Mohammed Yasin Malik and Mr Amanullah Khan parted ways five years ago. It was during Mr Malik’s visit to Pakistan in June last that he had met Mr Amanullah Khan, his mentor years
ago. It was during the meeting that the two leaders agreed to unite in the interest of the organisation that had been a votary of independence for J&K and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Accordingly, two committees were constituted to prepare a unity draft plan. Committee constituted by Mr Khan had proposed that after the two factions united Mr Amanullah should be installed as the party’s constitutional supreme. Reports from across the border said that Mr Yasin Malik rejected the proposal with the result the unity moves did not succeed. According to these reports, efforts had not been given up but chances of unity were being considered bleak. Meanwhile, the APHC leadership is keen to be taken into confidence whenever Delhi and Islamabad started discussion on Pakistan’s proposal of settling the Kashmir issue through self governance in Jammu and Kashmir. Chairman APHC Molvi Umar Farooq, who is scheduled to meet Pakistan President, Gen Pervez Musharraf in Saudi Arabia, has said that during his meeting he would seek an elaboration on the self rule plan from General Musharraf. He said that since “we were not taken into confidence while dishing out the proposal we are keen to know the shape and contour of the self rule plan.” Another senior APHC leader said that, “If by self rule Pakistan wanted a fresh election to be held under the Indian agency, it is not acceptable.” |

The CRPF today averted a major tragedy when it detected and defused a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) in the downtown this afternoon. Official sources said a patrol party of the CRPF during a routine search of vehicles at Parimpora found an IED fitted in a milk can. The vehicle was on way to
Srinagar from Handwara. A police spokesman said a woman and the driver of the vehicle were arrested for questioning. He said security forces gunned down a militant at Kokernag in south Kashmir today. The firing ensued after a search party was attacked by militants. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant, who has been identified as Noor Uddin Khoori.

Proposal of joint control over Kashmir rejected
Jammu, November 30 Mr Geelani said that the proposal of self-rule in both Kashmirs by the US-based Kashmir Study Group had been prepared to create confusion among the people. He said what would Kashmir get out of self-rule. Kashmiri Chief Ministers had been ruling Jammu and Kashmir since 1947, but the dispute had not been solved. He said the new theory was being circulated with a view to roping in the moderates and hand over power to them so that they sat quiet. Mr Geelani claimed that J&K was a natural part of Pakistan during partition of the country, but this part of the state was held back by India. The instrument of accession signed by the then Maharaja Hari Singh was a disputed document, he claimed. He reiterated that the only lasting solution for the Kashmir dispute was that India should honour its commitments in the UN and hold plebiscite in the state. |
