Murderous attack on lawyer, family members
Gurgaon, November 13 The police have registered a case in which Mr Sandeep and Mr Bhupider Mallik have been named though no arrest has been made so far. Mr Sandeep is said to be a relative of Congress MLA from Beri in Jhajhar constituency, Mr Raghuvir Singh Kadiyan. The murderous attack has generated wide-ranging resentment among the public and reflects poorly on the claim of the police to provide tone up law and order in the region. The district police chief, Mr Hanif Qureshi, said that the case was registered under Sections 384,506 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code and investigation was on. Mr Qureshi said that the police was investigating the matter and nothing can be said with certainty on the issue. Mr Bhardwaj told newsmen in the hospital that two persons called him out of his house at about 11.30 pm yesterday. When he responded, there were about 10 others waiting, who attacked him and his family members. Mr Bhardwaj said that the attack on him was related to his campaign to free public passage near a land on the Meharauli road, which has been bought by some influential persons. The land is mired in a controversy. It may be recalled that HUDA had been fighting a legal battle to acquire the public passage. It is alleged that Mr Pradeep Puniya, Law and Crime Advisor to the Haryana Government, was behind the purchase of the land, which was later disposed of to another party. The residents of the area had submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, Mr R.P.Bhardwaj, against stopping of the passage. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the opening of the passage for the public. The advocate was in the forefront of the agitation for opening of the passage. The advocate alleged that the attackers were part of an influential circle linked to the Congress government. Mr Bhardwaj alleged he was receiving threats from anonymous quarters and had brought the development to the notice of the police. He had also received threat calls on phone last evening, hours before the attack, the advocate alleged. Meanwhile, the president of the Haryana unit of the BJP, Prof Ganeshi Lal and the BJP MLA form Badli, Mr Naresh Sharma visited the hospital to see Mr Bhardwaj and his family members. According to reports, the BJP will try to corner the government and the administration on the issue. The Deputy Commissioner said that he has asked the police chief to provide security to Mr Bhardwaj and his family members, and a thorough investigation in the matter. |
