Kangra, November 13
Eleven-year-old Chotoo, the abandoned son left by his parents, remained unclaimed till this evening and the boy was shifted to the home for handicapped children at Sakoh near here under the directions of the Dehra SDM.

Kangra district police chief S.P. Singh said today that the boy was shifted to Sakoh last evening under the directions of the SDM before whom the boy was produced by the police. He said the state police had been informed.

The police suspects that poverty has forced parents to abandon their son at Dadaseba yesterday falling under Dehra subdivision of this district. The police claim that the whereabouts of his parents, suspected to be labourers, were still unknown.

The police still does not rule out the possibility of Chotoo having slipped from the clutches of a contractor where he might have been working as child labourer.

Dharamsala, November 13
There was commotion in Dr Rajendra Prasad Zonal Hospital here last night after a man allegedly slipped into the bed of a woman patient around 1.30 am in the female surgery ward. The incident has raised concerns about the security of lady patients despite the fact that the hospital is at a stone’s throw distance from police station.

According to hospital sources, the accused, who was under the influence of liquor, started misbehaving with the woman patient on the bed. Other patients in the ward had to intervene and the accused fled after the hospital staff arrived there.

The ward nurses on duty gave a complaint to the doctor in charge, who immediately reported the matter to the police.

Dr Ajay Dutta, general secretary of the Himachal Medical Doctors’ Association, said this was not for the first time in the hospital. Home Guards deployed in the hospital found themselves ill-equipped to stop any untoward incident. The lady doctors and lady patients needed security in the hospital, he said.

Another doctor said the police should have sent an investigating officer after receiving the message from the hospital last night. By the time a constable arrived, the accused had fled the scene.

Superintendent of Police S.P. Singh said the police had not received any complaint from the patient so no case had been registered. He, however, confirmed that they received a complaint from the hospital authorities.
