This was disclosed by the Chief Minister while addressing a press conference after his day-long visit to the quake-affected areas of Uri here this afternoon.

The Mufti said a team of Indian officers was going to Islamabad for working out modalities for a joint relief programme.

He said from Jammu and Kashmir, the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, Mr Parvez Dewan, would go as a member of the team.

The Mufti said during his visit to Uri today, he was told by the BEACON authorities that road to the Kaman post would be made motorable for light vehicles by the next week.

The Chief Minister also announced an increase of Rs 20,000 in the cash relief for houses partially damaged and added that 31,000 temporary dwelling structures would be constructed for the affected families soon.

He said since the winter was fast approaching and Tangdhar would be cut off for the next six months, it was felt that the affected people should get immediate shelter to escape snow and rains.
