DC orders probe into ‘poisonous’ lime water case
Ambala, July 14 The doctors collected samples of water, salt and lemon which were used for preparing lime water yesterday. Gurjant, a factory worker, had died while five others were taken ill after consuming the lime water yesterday. The factory workers had plucked lemon from a nearbyfield and had prepared the lime water. The factory workers, who were taken ill, were referred from Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantt to PGI, Chandigarh. Four of them have been discharged while one factory worker is still being under treatment. A team member said the possibility of
`salt’ being responsible for the incident cannot be ruled out. He opined that the factory workers had put salt in two small plastic bottles in which perhaps some other chemical had been kept. “The factory workers said that they have been using the salt without any problem. However, we noticed that the salt was wet which means that the chemical residue could have mixed with the salt,” he said. He said the different samples alongwith the viscera of the deceased would be sent forwarded for further tests. |
