PLEA ON POSTS: The Department of Animal Husbandry Services Association has demanded that vacant post of Joint Director (Feed and Fodder) should be filled by promoting the senior most fodder Development Officer, at the earliest. In this regard a deputation comprising Dr Jagdish Singh Randhawa, Dr Baldev Singh Brar, Dr Hazara Singh Cheema and others met Dr B.S. Sandhu, Director Animal Husbandry, here on Thursday. The deputation also demanded filling of two vacant posts of Fodder Development Officer.

WOMAN COMMITS SUICIDE: Nitu (25), a resident of Mohalla Lali Shah, was allegedly forced to commit suicide by her husband and other-members of the in-laws’ family who used to harass her for dowry. Police sources said on Wednesday that the police had registered a case under Sections 306 and 34, IPC, against Kiran Kumar, husband of the deceased, and Vijay Kumar and Rani, father-in-law and mother-in-law. All the accused had been arrested.

Crushed to death: A senior booking clerk of the Railways was crushed to death by a speeding truck near the local bus stand here on Wednesday. The deceased, Ram Achal, had been to the State Bank of Patiala for depositing the money collected at the counter. The incident took place when he was crossing the road while on his way back to the office.

CASE OF CHEATING: The Garhshankar police has registered a case of cheating under Section 420, IPC, on a complaint by Mr Gurdev Singh, son of Mr Amar Singh of Gangowal in Ropar district. According to police sources, Mr Gurdev Singh alleged in his complaint that Bhupinder Singh, alias Pindi, of Rampur Bilron, took Rs 2,30,000 from him to get him employed in the Navy police. He neither got him employed nor returned his money.

ILLICIT LIQUOR: The Mukerian police has arrested Pawan Kumar of Gulari under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act and seized 4,41,000 ml of illicit liquor from him on Wednesday. The Tanda police has also arrested a local resident, Babi, wife of Paramjit, and seized illicit liquor from her.

CASE REGISTERED: The police has registered a case against two persons for compelling a person to commit suicide. A complaint has been lodged with the police by a relative of the deceased, Rajender. Rajesh, the deceased, had reportedly consumed a poisonous substance on Tuesday.

PRISONER ABSCONDS: The police has registered a case against a prisoner, who was on parole but did not turn up after expiry of the time limit. In a complaint lodged with the police, the Jail Superintendent said Poll Ram of Rawaldhi village had availed parole but he did not come back after the expiry of the parole period.

Arrested
: A school student was caught red-handed while he was stealing a motorcycle near a banquet hall in the Model Town area here on Thursday. The student was handed over to police by the people of area.

Reinstated: The Postal Department has reinstated all the six employees, including an Assistant Postmaster (APM) of the Head Post Office with immediate effect. All these employees were arrested and placed under suspension on the charge of having collusion with Manohar Kumar a former postal agent who had duped hundreds of people to the tune of crores of rupees by not depositing their money in the small savings schemes launched by the government.

GANG BUSTED: With the arrest of one person, the police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of auto-thieves operating in this district for the past few years. The arrested person was identified as Tikka Ram, alias Tikki, of Baroli village in the district.
