Chaotic scenes during CM’s visit
Hisar, May 30 While even media persons, Congress workers and women were pushed by the security personnel and not allowed to enter the room where the Chief Minister was sitting, the plight of the common people can well be understood. Armed commandos of the Chief Minister’s security staff stood guard at the entrance of the room in which Mr Hooda talked to his party colleagues. After brief intervals, the door was slightly opened and certain persons were called by their name from inside. However, no notable party leader or official could be seen near or around the room to direct the security men. Altercations broke out between security personnel and the Congress workers and other people who wanted to meet the Chief Minister. Some police officials even pushed the persons who were desperate to catch a glimpse of their leader. Later, some local Congress leaders tried to placate the resentful mediapersons and party workers. |
Poll din missing in Kiloi
Rohtak, May 30 Firstly, this is for the first time in recent history that the main candidate (Mr Hooda) is contesting the election in absentia. At the time of filing his nomination papers here he had asked his supporters whether they wanted him to seek their votes personally and campaign in the area in the usual manner. The answer was a big no. Since then he has not visited the constituency even once. He is scheduled to go to his ancestral village Sanghi only to cast his vote on the polling day. This is also perhaps the least costly election campaign. Compared to the large number of vehicles deployed by the main candidates normally during campaigning, very few vehicles are plying in the villages for garnering support for the Chief Minister. The number of vehicles deployed by the Indian National Lok Dal nominee Azad Singh Attre is also comparatively very low. The Chief Minister’s election office here admits that the poll expenses will remain much below the maximum figure prescribed by the Election Commission. They say very few posters had been printed and the demand for Congress flags was made only recently after the INLD supporters raised their party flag over roofs in some villages. No other publicity material was needed. The Congress election managers say they have not raised any funds for the campaign because “they can’t find any use for it”. “We do not need any publicity material. We are not holding any village level meetings. So, we are not accepting any donations or garlands of currency notes”, they added. For Mr Hooda his close family relations including his brothers, nephews and some other relatives, have toured the entire constituency once. Family sources said this was done to establish a direct contact with all voters rather than to seek votes. “When our voters are managing the campaign themselves, we find it odd to ask for their votes”, said a close relative of the Chief Minister. For Mr Attre, senior INLD leaders Ajay Chautala and Sampat Singh have toured the area along with other party leaders from the state. Their thrust is on convincing the voters that the Congress had come to power on “falsehoods”. How much ice this line of campaign cuts will only be known from the number of votes the party nominee polls. The BJP is already out of the contest after its nominee withdrew his candidature on the last day of withdrawals without taking the party leadership into confidence. This has caused a serious setback to the state BJP leadership forcing Mr Ganeshi Lal to offer his resignation from the post of party president. This campaign will also go down in history as one of the least noisy campaigns in recent times. There are hardly any vehicles blaring patriotic songs and “ragnis” in support of various candidates. The villagers go about their business as usual. Unlike in a normal election, there is no evidence of tension anywhere. Resultantly, the communities are not been divided along party lines. Yet, despite all this calm, a heavy turnout is expected on June 2. The Congress candidate has already appealed to the voters that he wanted Kiloi to beat all previous records of victory margin. |
Holiday for June 2 byelection
Chandigarh, May 30 Similarly, the Government in exercise of powers conferred under Factories Act has also exempted all the adults working in the factories which fall under the jurisdiction of the above mentioned Assembly constituencies subject to the condition that they will not be required or allowed to work on June 2 so that they can cast their votes. |

Hooda cautions Arya Samaj against political exploitation
Jhajjar, May 30 While addressing the annual Haryana Prantiya Arya Mahasammelan at the local Gurukul here late last evening, Mr Hooda expressed anguish over the politicisation of the Arya Samaj. Saying that even his opponents sought votes while donning the robe of the Arya Samaj, he cautioned the samaj against its political exploitation. He said it should devote its energy and influence in removing social evils such as pre-natal sex determination tests and discrimination against girl child, which were disturbing the social balance in this region”. Mr Hooda said that Swami Chinmayanand and Swami Omanand Saraswati and many other Arya Samajis had devoted their entire life in reforming society and propogating women education. The Chief Minister promised that he would not allow the slaughtering of cows in Haryana. He announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the Gurukul. Earlier talking to the reporters, Mr Hooda said that equitable distribution of irrigation water in all regions of Haryana was the first priority of his government and they had already taken action in this regard. A new canal would be constructed at a cost of Rs 250 crore to bring water to the southern region of the state. The amount had already been sanctioned for this project, he added. |

Three patwaris suspended
Gurgaon, May 30 The suspension came after the three Patwaris were found absent at their patwar circle when the Revenue Minister of Haryana, Capt Ajay Singh, made surprise checks at several Patwar circles in the district. The minister has also called for records relating to various Patwaris. The three patwaris are Mr Gulshan (Bajghera), Mr Sushi (Sukhrali) and Mr Balwinder (Jharsa). They were posted to the assignment since the time of the preceding INLD government. According to sources, the official instruction was that the Patwaris should be at their respective headquarters from 9 am 12 am to listen to the grievances of the public. According to many, the action was in the offing after Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda publicly acknowledged land related department and the Transport Department offices in the state during his speech at Rewari, a few days ago, saying that there were a lot of complaints against them. The Chief Minister had also cautioned the officialdom that the process of assessing the performance of the officials during the three months of his government has already begun. |
Seminar on human rights witnesses unruly scenes
Sirsa, May 30 Speaking on the occasion, the vice-president of the council and a lawyer, Mr Jagdish Chopra, said politicians were protecting violators of the human rights. Pointing out a case of April, 1970, Mr Chopra said Mr
L.D. Arora, who as a home minister in the Bansi Lal government, had come openly in the “rescue” of the then SHO convicted in a case. Mr Chopra said the police officer was found guilty in thrashing certain protesters who were beaten mercilessly in the police station. The apex court had found him guilty and dismissed his plea and awarded him six-month jail and monetary penalty by the lower court. But the speaker alleged that Mr Arora ``favoured’ the guilty official as he was his personal friend. Reacting to the reference by the speaker, Mr Arora challenged to prove him wrong. Much to the discomfort of the audience, the minister said, ``I know well what kind of practices your father was involved in at his native Mirpur village.’’ Interestingly, in his attempt to resolve the issue, the president of the council, Dr
R.S. Sangwan, criticised the speaker to raise an issue by name. “There are a number of violations in the streets but we need not to mention all,” he said. Meanwhile, the in charge of Department of Laws of Ch Devi Lal University, Dr
H.S. Jakhra, stressed upon the need to assure safeguards of human rights to the children and the aged. He said in his address that the two were sufferers as they find it hard to point out cruelty meted out at them. Dr Raj Kumar
Siwach, lecturer at the Department of Public Administration, urged the media to play a vital role to highlight violations of the human rights. |

Rohtak, May 30
However, the recommendations of the committee had not been implemented so far. Dr Dhankher said the job profile of ADOs had changed over the years for which they required to be trained keeping in view the requirements of the farming community and the recent developments in agriculture. It must be ensured that only the best and meritorious students were admitted to agricultural universities. He said farm scientists of Haryana were capable of providing consultancy of international standards but unfortunately their working conditions, job profile and status continued to be poor. Demanding the immediate filling of vacant posts he said the ADOs were the key to success of agricultural development programmes in the state and the government could only ignore their interests at its own peril. |
