Fatehabad, May 1 Mr Hooda said his government was committed to providing fair and just regime to the people of the state as promised by the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi. Answering a question as to whether the Congress would take action on the charge sheet against former Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala submitted by it to the Haryana Governor during Mr Chautala’s regime, Mr Hooda said his government would do nothing out of political vindictiveness, but it would not hesitate to act on a complaint. He added that Ms Sonia Gandhi would address a rally in Jind on May 14 to thank the people for giving a big mandate to the Congress. To a question on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal, Mr Hooda said Haryana was sure to emerge victorious in the Supreme Court, as the controversial legislation of abrogation of water accords passed by the Punjab Government was illegal. Asked about the fate of private schools running in residential areas, Mr Hooda said he had set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Education Minister, Mr Phool Chand Mulana, and the government would take decision on the issue only after it received the recommendations of the committee. He also announced that the government had allocated a sum of Rs 100 crore for development of urban areas in Haryana. He added that his government would give many benefits to journalists and would constitute the accreditation committee soon. Earlier, Mr Hooda was felicitated by several local organisations at the Surya Enclave residence of senior Congress leader, Arvind Sharma. |
Hooda assures relief to fire-hit farmers
Hisar, May 1 Hooda was talking to mediapersons at the local airport on his return from Fatehabad, where he had gone to inaugurate a judicial complex. He maintained that the kin of the farmer killed in a crop fire had already been given a compensation of Rs 1 lakh. Regarding the delay in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors, he said the matter would be finalised after the return of Governor A.R. Kidwai. Hooda indicated at the holding of Assembly byelections in June. He said the families of O.P. Jindal and Bansi Lal were yet to decide on candidates for Hisar and Tosham seats, following which the party high command would make a decision. In response to a question on the reinstatement of sacked employees, the Chief Minister said the government was sympathetically considering the matter. |
‘Overseas placement bureau soon’
Yamunanagar, May 1 This was stated by Haryana Finance, Labour and Employment Minister Birender Singh while talking to mediapersons here today. He was here to address a state-level Labour Day rally. The Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) would be the nodal agency for the bureau, he said. The minister said the standard of education in the state had fallen in the past few years and the government was committed to giving a new thrust to quality education. He said last year Punjab earned around Rs 1,200 crore through Punjabis who worked in foreign land, while Haryana earned just Rs 50 crore. He said it was a pity that despite Gurgaon emerging as a new IT destination in the country, youth of the state were not being able to exploit it as they were not fully competent to grab the jobs available in the sector. He said next year around 1 lakh jobs would be available in Gurgaon alone but the state youth would get only a small share due to poor education. He said English would be encouraged in the new education policy to be announced soon. The minister said with the introduction of new farm technologies and inputs, a quantum change in the quality and quantity of agriculture produce would be witnessed in the state and agriculture would emerge as a lucrative avenue. He said the government would provide a minimum support price and marketing network to farmers who opted for crop diversification. The government would come up with new schemes and policies to improve the declining sex ratio in the state, he said. While addressing a rally at Paper Mill Grounds here in the evening, the minister announced that minimum wages of workers would be hiked. For the purpose, a 15-member committee consisting of five representatives each from the government, labour unions and industries would be constituted soon. He said the new industrial policy would be announced before May 30. The government would ensure minimum wages for workers. Additional Labour Commissioner Hohiar Singh, local Labour Officer Anuradha Lamba, chief general manager of the mill S.S. Arora and national president of INTUC Shyam Singh Chuhan accompanied him. The minister also met a delegation of plywood manufacturers from Jagadhri and Yamunanagar and assured them of providing facilities to encourage the growth of the industry. Regarding their demand of lowering of taxes, he said he would take up the matter with departments concerned and representatives of other industries soon. |

Fatehabad, May 1 The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, presided over the function organised on this occasion. Mr Justice S.S. Nirgar, Mr Justice M.M. Kumar, Mr Justice Jasbir Singh, Mr Justice S.K. Mittal and Mr Justice S.S. Sarao, all judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Arvind Kumar, District and Sessions Judge, Hisar, and judges of local courts, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Phateh Singh Dagar, the SP, Mr Bhim Singh, besides other officials of the district were present. The Chief Justice also announced the payment of special allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to all judicial officers in tune with the recommendations of the Shetty Commission from May, 2003. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said justice had been the basic foundation of civilised society. He said in case the people did not get justice, the law of jungle would prevail. He said the judiciary was the most significant pillar of the democracy. Complementing the judiciary, he said the Indian judiciary had stood the test of time. He said the Haryana Government had been trying its best to strengthen the judicial infrastructure. He said judicial complexes had been established in 17 districts of the state and sanction for remaining two districts had also been granted. He further added that the state government had decided to set up modern judicial complexes at sub-division headquarters also. |
Villagers block road against police inaction
Jhajjar, May 1 According to information, Vidhya Devi, wife of Risal Singh and a resident of Akehari Madanpur, had lodged a complaint with the Salawas police that Lakshya, a resident of Shahadra, Delhi, had eloped with her minor girl, Reena, by luring her on April 13 from Pelpa village, where the girl was living with a relative. However, when villagers went to the police station to enquire about progress in the case, policemen present there allegedly misbehaved with them. Later, a panchayat of Akehari Madanpur, Amadalpur, Sahpur and Mundahera villages decided to block the road to put pressure on the police. The villagers today assembled on the road and set up roadblocks. When DSP R.C. Indora reached the spot, the villagers told him that the girl was kidnapped allegedly in connivance with some relatives of a Baba of the local dera. The DSP, however, said the police had brought the relative of the accused youth from Delhi for interrogation and assured that the girl would be recovered soon. |

Four dead in road mishaps
Panipat, May 1 Narinder Kaur of Purewal Colony was killed and her brother Lucky was injured when the motor cycle they were riding was hit by a truck on the GT Road here this morning. The truck driver tried to flee. However, he was nabbed by the police later on. In another incident, Sharbati of Ahar village died when she was hit by a motor cycle. She was 50. Besides, two persons were killed when they were crushed under different trains. One of them was identified as Om Prakash of Kachha Camp. |

Bungalows remain in dark for 2nd day
Ambala, May 1 The Bungalow Owners Association’s president, Mr Raj Kumar, said 25 bungalow owners today deposited the undertaking along with an affidavit to the MES officials. The undertaking states that the bungalow owners are being granted time till May 31 to take alternate connection from the
HSEB. Mr Raj Kumar criticised the move of the MES authorities to snap power supply to the bungalows. “We condemn this move. The HSEB is not able to provide power to us and MES does not want to give us power, then what are we supposed to do,” he queried. |

Ambala, May 1 Jagjivan Singh was constructing a house and he had allegedly sought money from his in-laws. Harpreet Kaur’s brother expressed inability to pay money for their house construction. Thereafter, Jagjivan Singh hit his wife with the
tawa. Harpreet Kaur’s post-mortem examination was done at Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment. A case has been registered. |

2 criminals arrested
Sonepat, May 1 Disclosing this, Mr Sukhdev Singh, Superintendent of Police, told mediapersons here today that the police had recovered two country-made pistols and four live cartridges from the possession of the arrested criminals. The arrests made in this connection had now risen to four. The police has launched a massive hunt to apprehend the ring leader who is still at large. |
