Assembly session from March 21
Chandigarh, March 18 The Finance Minister, Mr Birender Singh, will present the Vote on Account in the House on March 23 during the morning sitting beginning at 9.30 a.m. According to the tentative programme of the Assembly session, discussion on the Vote on Account will also take place the same day while the Finance Minister’s reply on the debate and voting on the Vote on Account are also slated for March 23. The Vote on Account will cover a period of three months beginning from April 1, 2005. The business listed for the afternoon sitting on March 23 are Appropriation Bill in respect to supplementary estimates for the year 2004-05 (second instalment) and Appropriation Bill in respect to the Vote on Account. This will be followed by legislative business and taking up any other business that may crop up. The session, first since the Assembly elections on February 3, will commence here at 2 p.m. on Monday. It will begin by administering oath to the newly elected legislators by the Pro Tem Speaker. This will be followed by election of Speaker and election of Deputy Speaker and then the House will be adjourned till Tuesday morning. |

Hisar, March 18 His body was found near his official residence yesterday. Verma was earlier posted at Hathin, from where he was transferred to Barwala during the Assembly poll. He was a resident of Ballabgarh. On the basis of some statements and evidence gathered from the scene, the police has registered a case against Raj Kumar, alias Raju, a peon with the local market committee, his son and the son of his brother-in-law in this regard. The police has also confiscated a dagger, believed to be the murder weapon. According to police sources, Raju worked as cook for Verma and had taken some money on loan from him. Differences arose when Verma asked him to return the money. Verma’s reader Ved Pal and patwari Satbir had gone to Verma’s house on Wednesday where they saw Verma and Raju’s relatives quarrel over the repayment of the loan. They intervened and stopped the fight. However, when Ved Pal and Satbir went to meet Verma yesterday they found his body near his house. They informed the police of the matter, following which a case was registered. |
Haryana to follow finance panel’s recommendations
Chandigarh, March 18 The commission has recommended that the states should check the tendency to raise debts, cut their establishment expenditure and should work to increase their revenue collection. Mr Birender Singh said the new government’s emphasis would be on generating additional and new employment opportunities in the state so that the energy of its youth was channelised in constructive works and they did not take to crime. He said Haryana was better placed than Punjab in the field of fiscal management. He said overall the state’s financial health was sound. Mr Birender Singh said some of the policies and schemes launched by the Chautala Government towards the end of its tenure would have to be revamped for better results and proper implementation. |
Man killed, body found from canal
Karnal, March 18 Vikram’s father Pala Ram and his friend Mehar Singh, along with three persons, had allegedly murdered Jagbir Singh on Monday night at Karnal. The police reportedly took both into custody two days back. Vikram had also gone missing since Monday night the report of which was already given to the police. The parents of Vikram had alleged that the other party had abducted and then murdered him. On Wednesday morning, the police got information that Vikram had been murdered outside Rasulpur village, near here. SHO of Sadar police station Baljit Singh immediately rushed to the spot. The body was allegedly missing from the spot. However, stains of blood were found indicating suspected murder of Vikram. Yesterday, it was established that murderers had, after killing him, thrown the body tied with heavy weight into a nearby canal. Early this morning, the body was recovered from the canal. The police had earlier registered a case under Section 364 of the IPC but now Section 302 of the IPC has also been added to the FIR. Besides, the post-mortem examination, the police had also collected a sample of bloodstains from the spot where he was killed and sent it to the State Forensic Laboratory, Madhuban, for chemical examination. |
Life term for five in murder case
Sonepat, March 18 The five accused sentenced are Ved Parkash , his three sons, Rajpal , Yoginder and Kiran Pal, and his brother-in-law Anand of Glaspur village who had been facing trial under Section 302, and some other sections of the IPC. Another woman accused Seema Kaur is the wife of Ved Parkash. According to the prosecution story, the Murthal police had registered a case of
murder against these persons on July 5, 2003, on the complaint of Mr Jai Narain of the same village, alleging that they had assaulted his wife Bado Devi with sharpedged weapons. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital at Sonepat where she succumbed to her injuries the following day. |

Crafts mela to be biannual affair
Karnal, March 18 The Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Tourism Department, Mr Sanjay Kothari, announced this while inaugurating the 10-day second crafts mela at Oasis Tourist Complex in Karnal today. More than 200 craftsmen from different parts of the country have displayed their handicrafts for sale at the fair. He said in order to make the Surajkund Mela ground a happening place throughout the year, a designer’s village had already started functioning there from February 20 and the state Industries Department had provided funds for it. He said the first expo would be organised at the designer’s village in Surajkund from March 21 to April 4. Mr Kothari said the Haryana Government was committed to developing handicraft. |
