No new administrative unit due to ban: CM
Shimla, March 17 The Chief Minister was answering to a question by Mr Kuldeep Pathania during question hour in the Assembly. Mr Pathania had sought details as to when would the government upgrade sub-tehsil Siuntha to tehsil as the people were facing inconvenience due to the Naib tehsildar not enjoying certain powers. “I cannot give any assurance as to when it would be upgraded to tehsil as we will be in a position to consider the request only once the ban is lifted,” said Mr Virbhadra Singh. In reply to another question by Major Vijai Singh Mankotia, the Chief Minister said that a total of 2,629 posts in different categories were lying vacant in the Health Department. “Due to a ban on recruitment, the posts will be filled after following the prescribed procedures and on availability of trained personnel,” he stated. He informed the House that 450 appointments had been made since April, 2004. He said 131 posts of doctor were lying vacant, out of which 100 had been sponsored for doing postgraduation so the actual vacancy was only 31. In reply to a question by Mr Ramesh Chaudhary of the BJP, Mr Virbhadra Singh said that the government would hold an inquiry into the complaints of four houses being allotted to one family under the Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojna. The MLA pointed out that despite the laid down procedure for selection of families to be allotted a house, there were several instances of pick and choose to benefit people against the rules. The Chief Minister ordered an inquiry into the incident of reported search of girl students by male members of the flying squad of the HP Board of School Education during examination at Senior Secondary School, Shahpur in Kangra. It was Major Mankotia of the Congress who raised the issue through a calling attention motion in the Assembly, demanding holding of an inquiry by an independent agency into the matter. “Though in the spot inquiry conducted by senior officials of the board no evidence has been found in these allegations but we will direct the Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, to inquire into the matter and submit its report to the government,” the Chief Minister said. Raising the issue, Major Mankotia said that nobody was objecting to the checking of copying during examinations but the manner in which male members of the team searched the girl students was most unfortunate and there was great resentment among the locals. |

Liquor kiosks awarded at 5 pc hike
Solan, March 17 The rights were finally awarded to M/S Shruti and Company which had the highest tender amount of Rs 27.81 crore. The auctions were conducted in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajesh Kumar, Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner Amit Kashpay, AETC Geeta Singh and other officials of the department. Sources however, disclosed that there was a move by a Uttar Pradesh liquor baron, who has recently purchased a distillery at Una, to get the auctions deferred. There was a reported attempt by the said baron to enter the southern zone comprising Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla and Kinnaur districts and also to establish his stronghold in other parts of the state. An attempt was also made to procure the kiosks at 5 per cent less than the reserve money fixed by the department, revealed officials. The move was, however, scuttled and an increase of 5.16 was registered here. The fact, revealed officials, could be confirmed by the manner in which auctions at Una, Kangra and two units in Mandi districts had been deferred earlier. Similar attempts were also made in Sirmaur district where no one had come forward to bid. The rights were finally awarded through tenders. |
