‘Them’ become ‘us’ at Mohali

Emotions of Friendship, love, and brotherhood between traditional rivals ruled the first day of the test series between India and Pakistan, both inside and outside the stadium. Professing a lasting relationship strengthened with emotional bonding, Indians and Pakistanis took the bilateral ties between the two nations a step ahead, using cricket as an anchor.

The ace Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq had been waiting for seven years to repay his debt to a local doctor who had operated upon him in 1997 when the player injured his leg in a match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Mohali.

Counters set up for guests from Pak

The Sector 17 market is wearing a festive look these days. Different counters have been set up by the Municipal Corporation and the Traders Association, Sector 17, in order to help the guests from Pakistan.

Pakistani visitors to Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula now can travel up to Delhi and Ajmer.

Cops at PCA stadium go without water

The 2000 police personnel on guard duty outside the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here today went without water for over 7 hours. The men were called for duty at 6 am in the morning and till lunch time at 1 pm, no arrangements were in place for water for these policemen.

Youth dies as car catches fire
Mohali, March 8
A youth was killed when a car being run on LPG caught fire here late last night. According to the police, Gurmeet Singh (22), was returning to his home in Phase XI in his Maruti car, when the vehicle caught fire due to leakage of LPG from the cylinder near the City Park around 1 a.m.

Missing man’s family alleges police indifference

The local police has arrested eight persons accused of assaulting a resident of Kajheri village, last night.

2 booked for trespass, theft
Mohali, March 8
Two persons were booked by the police on a charge of trespassing and theft. According to the police, the two persons, Shabu and Nanah, both residents of Amb Sahib colony, stole an electric motor of 3 hp from a workshop of GREF, near Phase XI, on the intervening night of March 6 and March 7. Complaint in this regard had been lodged by Mr Manish Kumar Sharma. Police registered a case under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC.

An 80-year-old man was crushed to death when his Scooty (CH-03D-6607) was hit by a vehicle (CH-03 B-6185), near Maheshpur village today.

The All-India Physically Challenged Association of India organised a medical camp where 219 patients, including 37 physically challenged persons, were examined by Dr Vikram Jaswal, himself disabled by polio. The patients were examined Kailashpati Mahadevpur temple here today.

Grant sanctioned for prison reforms

For modernising infrastructural facilities in prisons, Rs 1800 crore have been sanctioned by the Centre to the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). This was disclosed by the Bureau’s Director-General, N.C. Joshi.

The local commissioners appointed by a court today visited the disputed site of new residential plots in Sector 15. They were there to assess if the demarcation of a residential plot allotted by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) was overlapping on the road leading to EWS Colony, Sector 15.
