Aero-yoga to keep pace with youngsters
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, March 7
Generation next need not crib about the slow pace of yogic asanas. The Chandigarh-based yoga expert, Balvinder Kumar, has devised an innovative form, aero-yoga, combining yoga with aerobics for the benefits of the youth.

“Yoga, the ancient Indian science to keep mind and body healthy, has to change with times to catch the fancy of the youth, says the expert while talking with Chandigarh Tribune. And with a view to make yoga contemporary, Balvinder has devised a one-hour capsule for the health-conscious persons . While the first 15 minutes are devoted to aerobics to warm up the body, the next 15 minutes are given to the yoga asanas. Pranayam and meditation are taken up in the remaining half-an-hour’s time.

“The aerobics, which is primarily a western form of exercise, primarily deals with the physical health. However, on the other hand, yoga aimed at mental, physical and spiritual development and aero yoga can do wonders for the development of overall personality development,” he adds.

Balvinder says that keeping in mind the fast pace of today’s life, he had devised a short capsule of 15 minutes’ duration which could be practised at home after initial training.

Regarding the distortion of the traditional form of yoga by the aero yoga, Balvinder claims that the aerobics had been incorporated only for the warm-up purposes. In any case, certain warm-up exercises are done for preparing the participants for the actual yogic postures, he adds.
