CEET: three students held
for fraud
Hisar, June 17 While scanning through computerised details, to his chagrin, he noticed percentage with similar names of certain applicants. Getting suspicious of some foul play, he informed Prof B. K. Kuthiala, in charge for the Hisar centres. At the asking of Prof Kuthiala, Mr Sethi’s comprehensive details led to startling revealations that many a candidate had filled two forms but with changed photographs. Registrar D. K. Kasnia, during physical verification detected the fraud and handed over Sandeep (Rewari), Rajpal (Gurgaon) and Jitendra (Sirsa) to the police. A local court has remanded them in police custody for two days. Interestingly, most of these students belong to the YMCA. Work to desilt Yamuna canal under way
Karnal, June 17 Claiming this, the Karnal District Magistrate, Mr R.S. Doon, told TNS that officials of the Irrigation Department had been asked to speed up the remaining five per cent work keeping in view the directions of the Supreme Court as the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal would ultimately merge with the WYC near here. About 5.5-km-long diversion channel to link both the canals had already been completed. He said in the WYC from the Kachwa bridge to the Kaithal bridge silt deposits had been removed. The banks were being strengthened in order to prevent Karnal from floods. The canal runs to its full capacity only during monsoon months. For rest of the months, the discharge varies from 2,000 to 4,000 cusecs only. About two decades back its capacity was 13,500, cusecs but it gradually reduced following deposition of silt. Now, with the possibility of inflow of extra water through the SYL it is necessary to remove the silt, said Mr Doon. He said a 28-foot wide pavement on one side of the WYC from the Karan Lake to the bridge on the Kaithal road had been reserved to link the Jind-Kaithal road through a byepass with the National Highway No. 1. |
Child’s death: doctor gets clean chit
Yamunanagar, June 17 However, the Medical Superintendent, Dr Rajvir gave a clean-chit to the
doctor. “The doctor was present at the hospital. In fact the child was neither
brought to the hospital’s emergency nor to me. According to my information,
the child was brought dead at the hospital”, claimed Dr Rajvir. The Civil
Surgeon, Dr S.C. Bhardwaj, is also of the opinion that the child was dead when
he was brought to the hospital. “The parents had visited a private doctor on
June 14 but when his condition deteriorated, the doctor referred him to Civil
Hospital. When our doctors examined the child, he was already dead”, said Dr
Bhardwaj. The Medical Consumers’ Welfare Association, Jagadhri, has made
a representation to the Deputy Commissioner. Several visits to the General Hospital revealed that the patients have to face a lot of difficulties because of the non- availability of doctors. Many a time patients had to go back to their homes or to private doctors. An
official at the hospital admitted that at times the patients are
harassed, as they could not consult the doctor they want. “Besides
the OPD duties, doctors have to attend various training and field
programmes and they could not be present at two places at one time”,
said the official. In all there are nine doctors, including the
medical superintendent, at the hospital. For quite some time now there is no eye specialist at the hospital and the radiologist has also been promoted. Even the radiographer is attending a training programme these days. The
Civil Surgeon, Dr Bhardwaj, said: “Besides other problems like
continuous duties, doctors have to appear before different courts in
connection with medico-legal cases (MLCs)”, said Dr Bhardwaj. |
