Golden Forest scam: liquidator found many financial irregularities

Justice R.N. Aggarwal (retd), whom the Punjab and Haryana High Court appointed provisional liquidator to manage, control and sell properties of Golden Forests (India) Limited, has filed a status report in the Supreme Court of India. Justice Aggarwal is a retired Judge of the Delhi High Court.

Cable operator’s killing: in-laws rue daughter’s role
Chandigarh, June 17
The in-laws of Om Prakash, the cable operator who was allegedly shot dead by his wife’s paramour, today rued the alleged role of their daughter in the murder. Om Prakash was cremated today.

Workshop for NGO volunteers
Mohali, June 17
A two-day workshop for volunteers of 27 Punjab NGOs was organised by the Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA) here today. At least 100 grassroot workers involved in implementing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) projects in Punjab are attending this workshop.

The Social Welfare Department of the Chandigarh Administration has invited applications from registered non-government organisations (NGOs) and voluntary organisations engaged in the welfare of women, children, disabled and other useful community welfare activities to provide them grant-in-aid up to Rs 20,000.

Youths snatch purse
Chandigarh, June 17
Two unidentified scooter-borne youths snatched a purse from a woman in Sector 18 last night. In another incident, Rs 16,000 were stolen from a bag of a woman from Jammu when she was in a corridor of the PGI.

Food vendor stabs customer
Mohali, June 17
Lakshman Lal, a roadside food vendor, today stabbed a customer with his vegetable knife, causing grave injuries. The victim, Jarnail Singh, was allegedly stabbed for refusing to pay for the food he ate at Lakshman’s stall near the Phase 3-A octroi post.

Plea to stall Punwire’s liquidation

Mr B.S. Baidwan, past president, Mohali Industries Association, has asked the Finance Minister, Punjab, Mr Lal Singh, to stall the liquidation proceedings for Punwire and hold an urgent meeting of the core group constituted by the Punjab Government to revive Punwire.

Children have fun at summer camps
Mohali, June 17
Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, here organised two summer camps for children of age group 3 to 6 years and age group 7 to 14 years on the school premises. Children had a good time, whether it was a splash pool or bhangra, craft work or music, or playing table tennis or yoga classes.

The Harpal Tiwana Foundation is ready to storm the world of Punjabi theatre in the second year of its establishment. Besides announcing an “Award for Excellence in Performing Arts” from this year, the Foundation plans to hold events in the memory of Harpal Tiwana. This year-long-affair of performance will be kick started tomorrow, with the presentation of one of the finest Tiwana plays, “Mela Munde Kuriyaan Da”.

Summer workshop concludes

A summer workshop organised by the Pearls Performing Arts Society concluded at Punjab Kala Bhavan on Thursday. The workshop was not just about learning singing, dancing and acting, but also about clay modelling and much more. A special analytical discussion with psychologists was also a part of the workshop.

A 74-year-old Tanzanian resident, Mr Kami Richard Lwekamwa, a retired government civil engineer, was in a jubilant mood today. After being operated upon four times without getting any relief for lumbar spondyloasis. He finally got rid of his perpetual pain in his back and leg operated upon him last month.

Indo-Pak snooker meet opens
Chandigarh, June 17
The prestigious Rexello Castors Indo-Pak Peace Cup Snooker Tournament, being organised by the Triple A Syndicate in association with the Chandigarh Club, was today formally inaugurated with a single frame match played between Indian and Pakistani players and a Pot Black Ball Tournament, where local players also took part.

Go slow on challaning women, cops told
Chandigarh, June 17
Keeping in mind the protest by various bodies against challaning of women driving two-wheelers without helmets, the Chandigarh Administration is learnt to have asked the Chandigarh Police to “slow down” the challaning drive against women.

MC to deploy cops for enforcement operations
Mohali, June 17
The local Municipal Council will deploy policemen to facilitate its enforcement operations. At least five policemen will be shifted to the council on deputation from the Punjab police. These policemen will accompany the council staff during its enforcement operations.

22 employees found absent
Chandigarh, June 17
A raid was carried out to check absenteeism in various government offices here this morning. As many as 22 employees of various departments were found absent from duty without any leave or intimation to their seniors.
