Cong names Outer, Chandni Chowk, E Delhi nominees

The Indian National Congress (INC) today nominated Mr Sajjan Kumar, Mr Kapil Sibal and Mr Sandeep Dikshit to contest the Lok Sabha election from Outer Delhi, Chandni Chowk and East Delhi parliamentary constituencies, respectively.

The New Delhi Municipal Council today claimed to have recovered more than Rs 1 crore from MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha as dues of electricity and water bills. This has been done after the order of the Delhi High Court in a PIL, titled ‘Krishak versus UOI’ and other in CWP number 4912 of 1998.

More than a decade after an employment exchange official cheated the government by forging official records, a city court has found him guilty of the crime and sentenced him to two years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI).

The officials of the Income Tax Department and the Excise and Taxation Department Haryana are reported to be inquiring into a racket, relating to the evasion of income tax and sales tax to the tune of Rs 20 lakh in the purchase of building material by the officials of the panchayati raj institutions in the district.

Eight injured as truck rams into three-wheeler
Sonepat, April 15
At least eight persons, including four women were injured, three of them seriously, when a truck collided with a three-wheeler carrying passengers on the Sonepat-Murthal road near Rewli village, about 6 km from here last evening.

Three persons booked for illegal mining
Faridabad, April 15
The police have booked three persons for illegal mining from a village in the Aravalli hills here. The accused were arrested with a dumper truck and a tractor from the spot. The police also seized a dumper truck loaded with the stones in the Ballabgarh sub division. However the driver of the truck managed to escape.

New Delhi, April 15
The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has arrested a DDA employee in connection with the infamous housing scam. The official arrested is V. D. Nanda, posted as Joint Finance Advisor in the DDA.

Electrician killed by friend
Ghaziabad: A 22-year-old youth, Ramesh Kumar of Vivekanand Colony here was killed by his friend and his body was thrown near the railway line carbon factory. Vijay Nagar police sent the body for autopsy after a passer-by had informed the police about it. Later, he was identified as Ramesh Kumar, son of Hira Lal of Vivekanand Colony.

Two criminals held with smuggled arms
Ghaziabad, April 15
The Loni police have apprehended two criminals engaged in smuggling of arms and ammunitions. This is the second arms cache which has been intercepted on way to the national Capital by the Ghaziabad police during the last fortnight.

BSES starts Rs 1.6 cr network to curb pilferage

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited today started the High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) network in Chattarpur Enclave. At a total cost of Rs 1.60 crore, the BSES has provided as a pilot project, the HVDS, for the first time to cater to the load demand of the colony.

Viart, a new vision in art by the young curator Ashna Singh Jaipuria, has been in existence past one year. Ashna has been showcasing works of well-known contemporary Indian artists through exhibitions.

Life-saving treatment for foetus with irregular heartbeat
New Delhi, April 15
In a landmark development, the medical team at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals provided life saving treatment to the yet-to-be-born child of an eight-month pregnant lady. The complication, diagnosed as Fetal Arrhythmia (Irregular Heartbeat of the Foetus), required administration of medicine/treatment while the child was still in the mother’s womb.

SAI signs MOU with Western Australia

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Department of Sport and Recreation, Government of Western Australia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday for “developing closer relations in the field of sports and a desire to promote and strengthen friendly relations and co-operation”.
