ELECTED: Dr N.S. Neki, Professor of Medicine, Government Medical College and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here, has unanimously been elected governing council member of North Zone of Indian Academy of Clinical Medicine, New Delhi, Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, Mumbai and Geriatric Society of India, New Delhi.

CASE REGISTERED: A case under Section 376 of the IPC has been registered against Raju of Sita Mani of Bihar residing in Gokal Nagar here for allegedly raping the daughter of Mr Ashok Saini of the same locality on Tuesday, according to police sources.

VISIT: Mr Sukhdev Singh Libra, candidate of the SAD-BJP for the Ropar parliamentary constituency, visited Ottalan, Bondli, Dayalpura, Kotla Shamspur, Ghungrali Sikhan, Sangatpura, Mal Majra, Hedon, Faraur, Barwali Kalan, Barwali Khurd, Sarwarpur Gharkhana, Bhanglan, Manki, Baghaur and Seh Salaudi villages on Thursday. Jathedar Kirpal Singh Kheernian, member, SGPC, Giani Mohinder Singh Bhanglan, Jathedar Joginder Singh Seh, Inderjeet Singh Lopon and Gurdev Singh Mushkabad, also accompanied him.

ATWAL’S NOMINATION: The SAD-BJP-BKU candidate from Phillaur Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, will file his nomination papers on Monday. This was stated here on Thursday Mr Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, MLA. Mr Atwal is a former Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

SALARY NOT PAID: The Class-Four Employees Association at a meeting on Wednesday criticised the administration of the local General Hospital for delay in the payment of their salaries and urged the district administration to look into the problem. Mr Bishambar Ratti, district secretary of the union, said employees had not been able to get their wards admitted to schools or pay their bills due to this.

Hisar
CRUSHED TO DEATH: A railway gangman was crushed to death by a running train between Hansi and Satroad railway stations on the Hisar-Bhiwani railway line, the police said on Thursday. Mr Bhim Singh (38) was a resident of Ramayan village in this district and was residing in railway colony. The incident occurred when he went to the railway line to bring his son back home. The body was handed over to his relatives after post mortem conducted in Hansi hospital, the police added.

BAN ON PLASTIC SOUGHT: National Conference general secretary, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad has expressed concern over the use of plastic by political parties. He said here on Wednesday that various political parties including the BJP, the Congress and the PDP, were using plastic in banners, flags and posters. In this connection he had written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India and demanded an immediate ban on the use of plastic to prevent any harm to the ecology.

BODY FOUND: A highly decomposed body of a middle aged youth was recovered from a 200-foot deep gorge near Hotel Timber Trail on Wednesday. The police officials who rushed to the spot on receiving information from some passersby have ruled out foul play. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the body had been devoured by animals.
