Ray of hope for 205 retrenched employees
PAIC ready to adjust PLDRC staff for land
Ludhiana, February 28
There is finally a ray of hope for the 205 families of employees of Punjab Land Development and Reclamation Corporation, (PLDRC), who were issued retrenchment notices by the state government after dissolving the corporation three months ago.

New twist to suicide case
Ludhiana, February 28
The hopes of a Ludhiana-based couple who had lost their son after he committed suicide last year, to find persons responsible for his death have crashed to the ground with the Ludhiana police writing to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PHRC) that the youth had not received any SMS on his mobile phone.

Source of HIV +ve blood identified
Khanna, February 28
The police has traced the man whose HIV positive blood was used by Bahadar Singh, who claims to be a doctor, to infect a woman on Wednesday. SSP Pramod Ban told Ludhiana Tribune that the arrested man confessed to having taken the blood from an AIDS patient of Galwati village, falling under the Nabha Sadar police station.

SAD youths burn CM’s effigy

Activists of the youth wing of the SAD today burnt an effigy of CM Amarinder Singh to protest against the alleged rampant corruption in all departments of the state and the recruitment of DSPs a few days ago by ignoring several deserving sportspersons.

Gang of thieves busted, 4 held
Khanna, February 28
The Khanna police has busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of four persons involved in a number of thefts in the state. According to the police, a special roadblock was set up near Ram Garh village. A police party, led by ASI Sikander Singh, arrested the four persons. During their interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime.

Pindi Street firm booked
Ludhiana, February 28
The Kotwali police yesterday registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against a Pindi Street firm dealing in medicines on the statement of the business manager of an ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit located at Solan in Himachal Pradesh.

The Punjabi Sahitya Sabha of Kamla Lohtia SD College organised a face-to-face programme with noted Punjabi poet Surjit Patar here yesterday. Surjit Patar recited some of his poems and sang gazals, much to the delight of students. He also answered questions posed by the students.

Homoeopaths flay council decision
Ludhiana, February 28
As the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH) has taken up in the agenda of its 37th meeting to be held on March 20, 2004 the issue of the one-year course in homeopathy for graduates of modern medicine. The issue has been condemned by the Indian Homeopathic Medical Association (IHMA). The IHMA has started a campaign to gherao the CCH on March 20 during the meeting in New Delhi in protest.

Sandeep, Amandeep best athletes
Ludhiana, February 28
Amandeep Kaur, a student of first year (information and technology), in the girl’s section, while Sandeep Singh, a student of third year, gave stupendous individual performances to win best athletes titles in the two-day 44th annual athletics meet of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, which concluded here yesterday.

Govind college athletics meet
Ahmedgarh, February 28
The 32nd athletics meet of Govind National College, Narangwal, concluded here on Thursday. Manjit Singh and Lakhvir Kaur were adjudged best athletes amongst boys and girls sections, respectively. The meet was inaugurated by Mr Harbakhash Singh Khangura, while Mr Balbir Singh, secretary, college management, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Harwinder Singh shines
Mandi Gobindgarh,  February 28
Gobindgarh Public College, Allour, held its first annual athletics meet and prize distribution function at the college ground on Saturday. The chief guest, Mr Chaman Lal Garg, chairman, GPC, unfurled the flag and declared the meet open. Students who were divided into four Houses took part in the march-past and 37 sporting events.
